In a recent post i explained how my GPS was pinched it was a garmin with street maps capability only.I thought i would replace it with a unit that has both street voice prompt tracks and 4wd tracks ,,,,i dont want laptop....too bulky...ive seen a Hewlett Pacard ipac rx 5765 for $577 it comes with voice prompt street maps and im told will take oziexplorer or similar.
Anybody have coments good or bad on this set up,will try to buy from this site but i think they only sell software.
What do you think.????

You should have no problem at all mate, although I no personal experience with the HP iPaq 5765 PDA, it should be a good solution.

Any PDA that runs Windows Mobile 5 operating system will run OziExplorer CE.

Install Ozi into the PDA's "flash memory" if there is room, but install the maps you will also require, onto an SD or CF card.

On my PDA, which has both SD and CF card slots, I run CoPilot Live from an SD card and OziExplorer from the PDA's flash memory. The NATMAP Raster series of maps are stored on a CF Card.

I have a 5965 with Ozi and it's a handy navigation unit.

Generally I find the pda is slow to synchronise & start up (compared to an older hp pda), but ozi is quick to get a sat fix (in all but the odd occasion). The rotatable screen is handy and I have reassigned one of the shortcut buttons on the top to open ozi instead of tom tom.

Occasionally the unit has a fit and ozi doesn't get a sat fix, but a soft reset and away it goes.

Interestingly tom tom & ozi can operate at the same time, so effectively you can have tom tom giving voice directions while looking at a map in ozi. I'm not terribly sure why that would be useful though!

Used in conjunction with a mobile phone with bluetooth, it's a handy for email checking & the odd bit of internet use.
