Hi all,
I'am very impressed, to get so easy in touch with you. thank you for your help and feedbacks so far! It will be great to travel around in Australia (May/June 07)
QUESTION:
how/where to get the freshest
Barramundi between
Darwin -
Kununurra -
Fitzroy Crossing - GRR ? and any other FRESH food e.g. veggies, fruits, fish, meat etc?
thank you - Outback & food lovers - for your reply! Greetings from Switzerland - Martin CH

Martin
Most towns will have fresh veggies and you can normally buy fish from a Butcher. But
Fitzroy Crossing is only a very small place with limited supplies and along the GRR there are no food shops or businesses of any kind except foir tourist resorts and private stations(big farms) which lie
well off thew GRR.
Cheers

Hi Willem,

Sorry mate had to put this in, I have people ask we if their are any takeaways in the Simpson. So just my sick sense of humour.....

G'day Blaze
On a previous occasion on the CSR I learned that
Kunawarritji was also known as K-Mart. People get so stressed at being away from shops that they look forward to the empty shelves of the
Kunawarritji Store. Because of the specialised diets of the locals certain foods are not available in the store, BUT!!!......my mates' SWMBO just feasted on BUYING stuff at that store as she had not seen anything resembling a
shop for a week!!!
Cheers

Well Blaze, there is a KFC near
Lawn Hill National Park.
I followed the signs but no bloody chicken anywhere!

Martin,
I think there is a
supermarket at
Fitzroy Crossing, but beware there are restrictions on fruit and other produce, going into the Ord irrigation area.
There is an inspection point just before
Kununurra and they will take everything prohibited off you .
Best
check this site out for full details
Kununurra has good shopping and fresh local produce.

G'day Martin
Timber Creek is great for Barra, just bring a boat and rod. :)))
But please don't swim in our lovely northern rivers, or stand by the waters edge, the lizards are watching you(EVEN IF YOU CAN'T SEE THEM!!)
Get your meat vac packed in
Darwin, as long as it's kept cold red meat will last about 6 weeks, 10 days to 2 weeks for chicken. Re vegies, potatoes, pumpkin, onions all travel and last
well, put them in a cardboard box not plastic or they will sweat and go rotten.
Have you been here before?.
Regards Lyndon & Bernadette
