Hi Martin .
Don't miss either both beautiful but vastly different I would miss
El questro before the others . The aboriginal art work around the mitchel plateau is out of this world. also the Bradshaw art around the
King Edward river. You must be prepared to walk.
If you can give me your Email I can be more specific.
Cheers Bungarra

Hi Bungarra,
I'm with you. No one should miss either if possible. We missed
El questro and haven't felt deprived! Loved the
camp at
King Edward River. We left the ct set up there and took a tent
Mitchell P.
If in doubt as to where to find Aboriginal art at
Mitchell the
ranger is very helpful.
Camp hosts were helpful at KE Riv. for sites there.

I asked this very same question on the
forum in 2004 when we were planning a trip to the
Kimberley!
We ended up going to
Mitchell Falls and didn't regret the decision at all. It was one of the highlights of our trip (with the others being the Bungle Bungle National Park and
Cape Leveque). We treated ourselves to a helicopter flight over the falls and hiked back and it was magnificant. I would thoroghly recommend this if experience. The
campground at the
Mitchell falls area was tidy and the
Ranger was really dedicated to his work up there and gave a very informative talk about the area around a
camp fire one night. At that time camping up there was free. We camped at
Drysdale River Station on the way up which is a fantastic place to stop and they serve a great hamburger! The road north from Drysdale Station was ok until the turnoff on the
Mitchell falls road and terribly corragated from then on - but that's all part of the experience! Took us about 4 hrs I think from Drysdale Station.
We are heading back to the
Kimberley this year in August and will go to Mornington instead so I can't comment on the comparison but we didn't regret chosing
Mitchell Falls the first time around.

Hi Martin,
I agree with the above comments re
Mitchell Falls - great place, and plenty of other things to see as
well.
Mornington
Camp is great, and you can drive down to
Dimond Gorge from there (about 20km, I recall). Canoes are for hire there, the hire arranged back at the
camp (we used our own inflatable boat). You can paddle 1-2km down the
Fitzroy river through
the gorge, which is quite magnificent. If you want to have accommodation provided, the
camp has tented cabins, provides meals and has a bar. Otherwise the
camping area is quite nice, located by a flowing creek. Other things to see there are
Sir John Gorge and Officer Falls. Last time I was there, it was operated by the Wilderness Society, and a fee applies.

Thanks Ray . Must have put the wrong date i think . Beard's short again now . With a bit of luck , we will have another fire on the same spot in about 7 weeks . It's a secret spot , so no other
pic's will be posted and only about 4 other's know about it's whereabouts . I'll give you a hint through , It's in the
Pilbara . Cheers Errol

Hi Errol, I'll also be in the
Pilbara in about 7 weeks so I'll look out for your distinctive rig so I can trail you to the secret spot!
( I won't tell anyone else - honest!)

Mite have a cub camper behind instead of the penthouse , not sure yet . Going into Indee station for a couple of days , thats about all we know about this trip . Go where the road takes us . Also going to try to find an
aboriginal art site again and a hot spring that i didn't know about just south of sandfire . Cheers Errol

That spot wouldn't be any where near where an old tin mining prospector lived in an old humpy built into a river bank.
We used to drop in on him now and again and listen to his stories

Having been to both Iwould say there is no reason for not doing both on your trip. You will find you only really need a couple days at each and my advice is that if you are going at end of May do the falls first as the more water around the better it is at Mitchel Falls.

Only managed the falls to date myself. Truly an Australian icon. Best if you can manage both.

Mitchell Falls a must absolutely fantastic. We toyed with doing the drive into Mornington but last June the word on the road was don't bother as the road in was pretty lousy and a bit of a dissapointment at the other end. Mind you could just of been the people we spoke to at the time.
