Doing a bit of G.R.R. research and seem to have come across something that's not really explained too well.... Can Emma Gorge only be visited after paying El Questro's $15/adult park pass?

regards, Nige

Hi Nige
When we were there last year we visited the kiosk at Emma Gorge and had a coffe and no one asked for our permit although we didn't actually visit the gorge as we had stayed a few days at El Questro, which by the way was well worth the effort although a little on the expensive side
Cheers Ray

Nige,

You do need to purchase a pass to go right in to Emma Gorge itself. You get this at the information/restaurant/shop. You can get a day visitor pass there. I think it was $15 for two adults.(not each). The walk takes you through some really rocky areas caused by the cyclone a few years ago & crosses and recrosses the creek. It isn't difficult though and takes about 45 minutes.

When you get there it's well worth the effort. It's a lovely spot and great swimming. The cliffs surrounding the small pool are huge and have ferns clinging to the sides. Small showers spray water over everything and at the far side of the pool is a waterfall. You can swim right over and under it.

Vivien

You say it's great swimming. Wasn't it freeeezing when you were there?

Otherwise to Nige I'd say it's worth whatever the fee is to go there.

Banjo,

It was late August, very hot and so the swimming was great. The water was cold, but after the walk in we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree it's worth the fee to go there. It's one of the nicest gorges on the Gibb River Road - (I think).

June last year we stayed at EQ so paid the fees. When we went to Emma Gorge no one asked to see our pass but our vehicle had the pass displayed on the window, so no need to present ourselves in the store.
Walk into the gorge is extremely rocky but not a hard slog. Just watch that you don't slip. Apparantly 6 people came a cropper the day we were there.
Well worth the walk, there is a hot spring that comes out of the rock face about 20m back from the splash pool on the rhs when looking at the falls. Water in the splash pool was fffffffff cold.

Enjoy your trip

Hows it going Nige ,

I reckon Emma Gorge is well worth it , when we were there we had it pretty much to ourselves , after having been at Kakadu , etc and doing the rest of the GRR this was our favourite, not as cold as some pools , not as hot as some springs . When you swim out into the middle of the pool and have like rain falling from the way the top is shaped is pretty impressive.

Hot springs at EL Q are good if not crowded , My wife and I did a reasonably hard yakka in the heat walk in EL Q , 1hr + each way , Champagne Springs ? was a bit crowded but was no one else there . I think it was the first walk on the left as you crossed the last dry creek bed near the helipad , could be wrong has been a couple of years .

Glenn.

best walk at El Questro is the gorge of the same name but you need to swim through a pool and climb over a large rock to get to the next part of the walk.
