I am planning a trip to Exmouth in July and wondered if anyone knew whether Yardie Creek was passable?

Cheers,
Frank.

I was up there a four weeks ago and with high spring tides it was only passable at very low tide. Had to drive through about 50cm deep (low tide) but was over 1m at high.

At high tide I could launch the boat in the creek and motor out to the sea. There was quite a bit of rain two weeks ago so the creek may be flowing.
Regardless, you can drive into Ningaloo station from the highway and up to the south side of Yardie.

Will be back up there on Sunday can give more info then. Or call CALM (DEC) at Exmouth and ask the rangers for an update.

Cheers

Thanks Geordie.

After you visit Yardie Creek on Sunday I would be grateful if you could let me know of any changes - e.g. whether the rains have washed away any more of the sand bar.

Yardie Ck is a no brainer as far as obstacles go.

1. Make sure the tide is out first.

2. Engage Low range 2nd gear (engage hub locks if you have them)

3. Apply normal soft sand driving techniques

The whole crossing takes about 35 seconds

We observed 4WD towing caravans crossing so it isn't that hard.

Frank, I live locally and Yardie creek is passable most of the time, the rain we had would not have affected Yardie Creek at all.

Hi Mark,

I leave on Saturday for a 2 week trip and will be staying for several days around Yardie creek and/or Ningaloo station. How busy are the CALM sites north of Yardie creek most nights at the moment? I would prefer to camp at the CALM spots but may have to stay at the lighthouse CP if too busy.

Thanks for any advise

Cheers

Hi Captain,
from the traffic ( vehicles with caravans etc) that I have seen passing work all the popular spots like Mesa/Pilgramunna would be full, i would say the Lighthouse Caravan Park would be the go.

Cheers

Frank,
I just returned from Exmouth and launched a boat over the beach several times at Yardie. The crossing is fine at low tide but the beach is a little soft for launching.

Captain,
I hope the trip is going well.
Camp sites were very full last week in the National Park but there was space at the Yardie Homestead caravan park. I did not get down to Ningaloo Station on this trip.
