Is anyone else having the problem of having Indians coming to there house on at least a fortnightly basis at about dinner time wanting to change their gas, electricity and telephone over !

From what i can guess there having no luck calling the telephone (people telling them to pee- off ! So there doing it agressively foot

Their should be a DO NOT WALK UP MY DRIVEWAY REGISTER !

If i had more time i would change all the service providers back and forth on a fortnightly basis throughtout the year..If we all did this they may not send them as regulary !

Cheers

I have just had them on the phone a few times a day.

When is the do not call register start as I registered and they still call.

Kev,

It is my understanding that it is active now, but the Government have allowed 30 days for businesses to update their records.

It may also take up to 30 days from the date of registering before your number is added to the register.

From the FAQs of the register site:

"The rules applicable to telemarketers under the Act and the industry standard, are expected to take effect from 31 May 2007. "

Thanks,

I registered the first day it was announced it was operational, I never gave it another thought until the Indians began calling every day for the past three days.

The do-not-call register is Australian - do you really think the people in India will take any notice?

I'm glad my driveway is long - don't expect them to come knocking on my door.

Years ago (pre computer days, when encyclopedias were flogged by door to door salespersons) we were moving furniture around, and our neighbour was helping, when there was a knock on the door. The neighbour went as we were the other side of the furniture, and my husband called "and if it's another bl--dy encyclopedia salesman, I'll throw him down the steps". Neighbour laughed as he saw the salesman running from our house. That one worked.

Better still, when my sister's children were young, my father was hospitalised in the city, and x-rays taken. My sister and my mother were looking at the x-rays when they little girl answered the door. They heard her say "Mummy and Grandma are in the bedroom looking at Grandpa's skeleton". The Avon lady beat a hasty retreat.

Again from the FAQs:

Are telemarketing calls from overseas covered by the register?

Yes. The Do Not Call Register legislation applies to both businesses within Australia that use overseas-based telemarketers to help solicit sales, as well as those based overseas making calls to Australian telephone numbers

So i would say the answer would be yes as most, if not all, overseas telemarketers are commissioned by Australian companies in any case and may not want to deal with consequences publicly.

Yup, we had them around here last year.

I asked "Why didn't you ring instead?...Now I have to slam the door in your face"

Its been quiet for a while.

When the religious mob come around just say you are Jewish and you will never see them again....

LOL

Hi Willem
Saying you are Jewish just makes them all the more determined to convert you.
Have you noticed that an American evangelical religious mob are currently renting the old Radio Australia transmitters at Darwin to broadcast to the Islamic masses in Indonesia. Why else but to convert them?

I disagree with you.

My father -in -law used that ploy successfully for many years.

I just say No Thanks not today and close the door.

Another that made me laugh was when John Safran went to an area in the US which was virtually all Mormans and went door to door promoting Atheism. They weren't too receptive.....

There is only one deterrent these people understand.

A 6' fence and a Rottweiler works ever time.

If they can get past that I will give them the time of day, It will be F off time.

Any politcal party that calls me will not get a vote and any charity will not get a cent. The religious orgs that are also allowed to call us, I havent found any thing I cannot give them but I am working on it.

Hey obee

I agree on the political parties and the God squad and when I wasn't financial the charities got a "sorry I'm not in the position to help".

Now I am in a position to help, last year I was asked to help the Variety Club and Palmerston shopping centre's Special Children's Christmas Party.

This came with benefits EG: Advertising and a certificate of appreciation, we also had an opportunity to attend, as we were on holiday's we couldn't.

This is now a Charity I will support as I now have the finance's to do so, I also have a happy healthy child that will have every thing he needs, so if $220 can help some kids have a fun day, then a fun day they will have.

Cheers Steve.

I am not against charities raising funds but there are venues for that and I am always happy to give something if a good cause for those who cannot help themselves. There are many businesses that make a good living from raising funds for charity and they do a lot better than the charity. These are the ones who will take advantage of the unsolicited call.

My main point however is that if someone does not like dropping every thing to go to the phone and find out it was unsolicited call, they should have the right to some peace and quiet in their own home. Mail is easily sorted into the bin. I dont mind that cos I have to look in the mailbox anyway.

Don't answer the door. Works for me every time. See them enter my property via CCTV after infra red beam across driveway activates alarm. As for telephone, get a Silent Number - make sure you tell service provider you want a new number -one that hasn't been previously released. Works for me.

C'mon people! What is wrong with just saying "no thanks, I am not interested" and then closing the door or hanging up? Why do people get so agro with these marketers - it really isn't worth all the angst! It takes all of 10 seconds to say no and get back to what you were doing prior to the call/visit. Do you guys also fly into a rage every time you get caught at a red light? Lol!, the world just isn't fair.

Warfer69,
I have had a similar problem once with the freaks in Suits that tend to visit early sunday mornings. I just ask them for money when they come around and that soon gets rid of them

I'm sure the same would work for them or just tell them politely to ^&** off!
