Hobbsie
We are a couple of inexperienced 4Wdrivers who want to 'do' the Cape in the next week and have approx 18 days for the trip. We can't find a Tag-a-long going now so are seeking likeminded souls to team up with. We have 1 Troopie and 1 Prado. Hoping to go via
Bloomfield Track. Apparently the roads are opening up slowly with the route to
Coen OK to travel now.
Hobbsie.

That is our trouble - we can't wait too long as we have to be back in
Port Douglas by 12th June and want to leave as much time as possible to do the Cape. We will chance it I think and may just have to stop by a river waiting for advice from more experienced adventurers.

hi Voxson
myself and mbr Steve F are also leaving on the 31st may for the Cape but from the bottom of WA. We will take approx 4 1/2 weeks to get to the top . If you are member VKS 737 give us a call Whisky 290 as would like to catch up with other Explorozers as we go. Have a good trip and may see you on the road or up the top somewhere

There's a constant stream of people - you will meet up with others at
places like Archer River, Moreton, etc.
When you reach a spot you are doubtful about, wait until someone comes along and ask for help on how to get through.
We found 99% of others were willing to help as we also helped where we could.
Enjoy the trip.

I would have to agree, you won't get lonely up there this time of year if you don't want to.
Cars today make the cape much easier than "the frontier days" of driving swollen rivers in underpowered overweight 4wd's.
Safe travels,
Trevor.

Sure thing. Email address is hobbco@gmail.com
Will be keen to tell you how we went. Our mate has the Prado. We may be anxious about the trip but I am sure our Troopie could do it despite our inexperience. From my research it would appear that most of the tag a long tours leave in July so you might have lots of company.

The
Bloomfield Track is very pretty, allow a full day from
Cairns to
Cooktown. We have property in C'town and just love the place!. The Bloomfield is an easy, if what steep track providing there is not lots of rain. Go slow and have fun!. If staying in C'town, May-lee's Thai food is great, Bowls club is OK too. Don't forget to walk/drive up
grassy hill lookout. Pop into the Croc
shop and say hello to Linda, she has written a book about the cape and her life there in the 80's, about $20 and a real laugh to read, a must buy.
Enjoy.
Cheers Lyndon

Have heard the Bloomfield is beautiful so will give it a go. The plan is to go slow so will spend a couple of days in
Cooktown with your advice and would be keen to read the book - always nice to listen to the life of a local.
Thanks for the tips.

As you have limited time, don't plan on more than one day in
Cooktown - It's tiny and not as interesting as the rest of the cape - others may have different ideas, but we found it a bit of a yawn.

Would you believe we are novice fisherfolk (as well as virgin 4WDrivers! Gosh some people like to go in feet first!) However, have borrowed the old man's
fishing rods so here goes.

Every piece of advice is appreciated. Is
Cape Tribulation worthy of more than a day or two?

IMHO, one day or just drive thru Cape Trib. Better off staying in Ayton.

Hobbsie, A great palce to stay is Haley's Campgroung (I think) was formerly Bloomfield Campgrounds, about 500m past General Store on the right heading north, in Ayton. Dont forget to go to Roaring Meg Falls just off
Creb Track. Cant wait to get there myself again in September.

ALSO - we have a couple of inflatable kayaks we like to paddle with. Is it worth carrying them up the Cape or are there only croc infested waters? (Blow ups not too good with crocs I would imagine!!!!)
