Getting the Fronteria ready for trip to Flinders & Simpson crossing in july.Spent the whole morning under & around checking everything.
To my delight I have found a crack in the chassis where the lower control arm mounts. Tho increse my enjoyment I checked the other side, & joy oh joy same thing, same place.
Had a look at old posts & seems that this has come up a few times before.
Anyone know of a GOOD welder / engineer in Western Sydney ?

Try a truck chassis builder.

A crack in proximity to a suspension/steering component, may require that the chassis be plated to comply with safety requirements.

Yes, I am trying to find an engineer at the moment but not haveing much luck so far.
I will also be going into the local Holden dealer in about hours time to let them have a look.
I luck is not usually like this. Most times I find problems miles form anywhere.

Just got back from local Holden dealer. Holden are very interested & would like photos etc, but of cause it would not be covered by warranty. Never had one of these go before.
I just want to get it fixed so ask the Holden man can they. No way we don't do that sort of thing.
Found a local truck body builder / chassis builder about 200 mt from the office & he will get his engineer to look at it and they reckon about $300 $400 to do the job next week.
I will get photos, as the crack on both chassis rails is in the same place & I would like to know why.
Looks like I will be doing something about a change of trucks when I get back at the end of July. Was hoping to wait another 2 years until I chuck in work, BUT !!!

Bad luck Vince, but as you say, good that you found it now and not miles from anywhere.

Another place to check for a crack is where the air cleaner box mounts onto the inner guard wall. Mine let go going across the Plenty, and then that weld let go across the Merennie Loop. It seems that the steel there is about as tough as alfoil. Otherwise, I keep being impressed by how my Frontera drives, where it can go, and how reasonably economical it is (even when towing).

Cheers
David

Good Evening David,
Already on my second set of cracks around the air box. Had them fixed after trip over the same roads as you in 2002. Now cracked again but they aren't creating any problems.
Other Cracking prob I have had that you may look at on yours was under the bonnet around the hinges.
We have had a great run out of this car with over 200,000 km and it has taken us everywhere we have wanted to go. So the engineers will put it back together next week then off to the Flinders for the EO gathering & the Simpson.

would a Frontera be similar to a Jackaroo? they do have problems with chassis cracks and it has been mentioned on here before. do search and it should find it.
