I am interested in the Kimberley Karavan.
I would be interested in hearing from any Karavan owners out there.
Can you give me an honest opinion of yours ? Any problems ? How easy/hard is the annex to errect ? Anytying you would like to add or subtract if you were ordering another one ?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi
Don't have one, but have looked at them. First impession, very good. Could do with hand winch to put the roof up/down, if the winch die's you are stuffed. Loved the option of inside + outside kitchens. Loved the way the bed slid out, the only van i have ever seen with a really good size bed.
Have heard there was major issues with insects getting in once the top is up.
They may have fixed this by now.
We have a Tvan on order, may get a KK when we are a bit older and want the extra comfort :). We like to do some exteme stuff, can't see a KK being towed up the CSR.
Cheers and good luck.

Dont have the Karavan, but have a Kamper - I think the chassis is the same - so it should tow really well - my opinion. I was at the Perth dealer last Saturday and had a really good look. Fully optioned it seems to be expensive, but certainly has quality - the bed looks good and there are some amazing electronics and technology on board. Hot water, toilet, electrics, air con, radio, TV, cooking etc all looks really good - not a lot of room inside - but how much room do two people need !!

Chris, there are four of us frequenting EO that are Kavavan owners, I won't name them all but needless to say if you are interested and go that way we will keep in touch. I have an email address at my rig pic you could follow up. As Willem says I will be home over the weekend. Have a mobile there too.

The annex needs some thought the first time, probably best without "help"

I have the a/c and they are very useful and have been added by other owners who didn't get it up front. Innovations in the KK are still evolving

Hi ChrisO

Can't give you 1st hand experience HOWEVER we are about to take delivery of a new Karavan in 1-2 weeks from now. Should have actually received it last Monday (we won't talk about that at the moment).

We have had it on order since late November 2006 so hope you're not in a hurry?
We are confident it's worth the wait however its' a very looooooooooong time to wait.

Kimberley are doubling the size of their factory however I don't think that will be ready for a while.

If you were a member (there's a special on membership if you're quick enough) you could email some of the owners direct as I did. They are more than helpful.

If you wish to follow up on how we go in a week or so please raise a new post and I will happily supply further information.

ChrisO,

I've got one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annex isn't difficult just takes some time. I don't have the extra three walls.

Currently looking at a bag awning for the quick erection characteristics of these!
Especially good for the quick overnight stay me thinks.

I'm thinking of putting another piece of track on the other side to give me some more versatility and options.

Dust sealing when the carapice is up has been improved by a new seal so that is a good improvement.

Difficult to read the display on the radio in mine. Angle of viewing is to great for an LCD display.

I eventually may get air. But you can install that yourself whenever.

Tows well. Did 120km/h and it just started to sway. Not enough space on the a-frame for weight distrubution hitch pieces.

Electro hydraulic disc brakes are excellent.

So far so good. Still early days with me. I 've had mine since Nov last year. Only four short trips. Still in shakedown mode really.

I've started to add a few things like shelving in side hatch and maybe change external kitchen slide to one that can accomodate the BBQ.

Extra gas bottle carrier is probably a handy option to get.

Send me a message if you wish for some more info.

Basically but I'm pretty happy with the product and what it does. And it suits my situation for usage and storage as well as its offroad abilities.

Close to two tonne loaded so I'm starting to think I would like a nice diesel to pull it as with some of the other newer owners.

Cheers
Garth

Thanks for the info Garth,

I appreciate your comments.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is a bag awning ?
What size gas bottle does it come with ?
Do you find there is enough storage for other camping accessories ?
How succsessful do you find the diesel heating & cooking ?
Have you towed it through sand ? Do you think it would be suitable to take something like this to Fraser Island (obviously with reduced tyre pressure) ?

Sorry for all the questions.

Chris,

Standard gas bottle size supplied is 4.5kg.

Bag awning is similar to Opensky or Gunyah awnings.
These roll up into a bag along the side. Two legs fold out from the front edge to support the awning. Fiamma make one I'm interested in.

Storage so far is ok. Really the Karavan is probably only suitable for two people.
For travelling mode the floor area could be used for whatever "stuff" you have.

The thing with this unit is the whole infrastructure for camping is there! Every thing else you need or take is the nice to have stuff.

Disel cooking has been minimal but it works. Just takes some time to get going.
The use of the heating has been minimal but when the shower water was heated it did a good job. The space heater would probably be good to. Not much air space to heat up.

No towing through sand yet. Judging by the Kedron DVD on the fraser coast I don't think it would be a problem.

No worries with the questions. I understand where you coming from. I'm the same.
Took me two years looking and I had to wait 6months just to see some pictures of this thing after I first heard about it.

Checkout the Kimberley Karavan web site for specifications and all the other info about the technology. It's pretty comprehensive.
