I am planning a trip in July from
Perth through the
Pilbara and then up to the
Kimberley. I would appreciate answers to two questions.
1) We are spending several days at Karajini and then we want to head North East to
Carawine Gorge - I have been looking at the road East of
Auski Roadhouse via Marillana to
Roy Hill - Can anyone let me know the usual condition of this road.
2) When we leave Carawine I have been looking at heading West along the Ripon Hills Road and then North via Muccan and
Shay Gap and then on the Boreline Road to connect with the Gt Northern Hwy. What is the
Marble Bar,
Shay Gap, Boreline Road like?

Only limited travelling in the area so far, and none recent. We went from
Marble Bar along the Boreline Road to the Highway and found it in very good condition and a scenic drive. Water was trickling across the De
Grey river crossing and after a hot day in
Marble Bar, it was a very welcome and cool surprise.

Thanks for that - One of our group also has an F250 - How are you finding it?

Hi Trekkie - it will be a while before we can get away in the F250 - but so far so good. Very comfortable and easy to drive; even for this little chicken. I don't like the column shift auto gear change - not as easy to move between gears as i tend to do even when driving an auto (eg down
hill). Not as much room as we thought for fitting accessories, so GPS had gone onto the dash, and rear view monitor onto the ceiling. We got the extra cab for added tray length, but really not enough room to put the control unit for the solar panel/battery and plugs for the fridge etc. It was a tight squeeze to get the extra battery under the tray. It needs bigger wheels - tyres are same size as the Patrol and Cruiser, so looks a bit silly.
Looking forward to taking it away for a few days camping later in the year, then hitching the caravan up maybe next winter. We were lucky to find one in such good condition and low kms, together with canopy, bull bar and long range fuel tank. We will be limited by size in some areas, but when mostly towing, the same limitations are there.

Just went to Karijini last week. The road west of Auski was good, can't say about east. Highly recommend Karijini but I was a bit disappointed that I was charged $17.50 to
camp at the eco village in my swag for one night. Just me and my swag. Needless to say I only stayed there for one night. If it wasn't getting late I wouldn't have stayed there at all! They have closed down one of the NP
camp grounds just down the road to make people
camp at eco village.
Apart from that though I had a very good time. Lots of water in the pools and waterfalls at the moment.

Not far Blaze, I only had a few days off work and was just doing the touristy thing in Karijini, looking at the gorges etc. Didn't want to drive out of the park to
camp then have to drive all the way back in to the gorges, due to lack of time. Will be camping somewhere else next time.

While i havnt been there i worked with a
marble bar local who was always bemused that everyone headed to carrawine while he (and the others that had been there) insisted the nearby
Running Waters was a far nicer place but yet almost unmentioned
