Does anyone have any (relatively) recent experience of Rudall River NP? We are planning a trip in July, coming in from the south and heading out north via Telfer and on to Carawine Gorge, Marble Bar, etc. Two vehicles, one with a camper trailer and the other with an AVan Cruiseliner (higher ground clearance than a normal AVan, but still a bit long) and I was wondering whether there are any severely steep creek crossings which may cause pain...

Theres only Rudall River itself and in 2005 it wasn't steep at all. There may be one other creek that was quite steep on the north bank after RR. Still, there has been quite a bit of rain in those areas of late so things might have changed. If you get there and it is steeper than you think there are lots of stones around to do a bit of roadbuilding!

Thanks Willem - that was exactly what I was loooking for, and your reply has reassured me somewhat. I can always (gently) drag the van on its skids - it has a full length box chassis!

While I'm on the subject, have you travelled the track out to the west from RR though Meeting Gorge to Christie Crossin, then up to Skull Springs road? Just wondering how rough that track might be.

Rod

I found a track which looked like the one going to Meeting Gorge but after a couple of kilometres it just disappeared. At that stage I was running tubeless tyres and didn't want to go cross country looking for trouble. Have left that for the 'next' time I am in that area with proper explorer tyres.....lol Some of these tracks marked on maps hardly exist any more.

Cheers

Yes - it shows up faintly on Google Earth, but there's only low res imagery for the area from RR to Meeting Gorge. In my experience, faint tracks on low res satellite photos can usually be followed, provided the GPS also shows the track to keep you on line. Again, I'm looking out for deep creek crossings etc. There's some high resolution imagery further west near Bocrabee Hill and that shows a relatively good track from there through to Christie Crossing.

Another possibility further north, is to take the track from Moses Chair west via the Nifty Mine, coming out at Woodie Woodie mine, then heading north to Carawine Gorge. Have you been that way?

Channel 8 UHF on the Marble Bar-Telfer road, and watch out for the Quad (4 trailers) Road Trains carrying Manganese from Woodie Woodie to Pt Headland.
