Does anybody know the best way to seal (water proof and stop hole from spreading) a small hole about 2 mm diameter in a poly cotton tent. The tent is a 30 sec Oz tent. Thanks

You can buy canvas patches from any of the better tent places.

the BEST way to get it sorted is to take it to somewhere like southern cross canvas or outback canvas etc and they will sew a patch on and seal it.

YMMV.

once patched get a candle and rub it over the stitch which seal the seams, helps with the rest of the seams in the tent as well. col

Bob, the last time I needed such a repair I had it done for me (didn't have a misses that could sew back then).

The tear was about 2 cm long and the patch was a bout a 6 cm square. They sewed the patch on the outside. It was stitched around the tear and again around the outer edge of the patch. They used "wax thread", applied a waterproofing and advised me to do the usual wetting down that one does to a new canvas/cotton tent. I still have the tent. The patch has not leaked in 15 years of use (despite some pretty horrific storms).

If the cotton canvas is not too "heavy" you could do the same thing at home.Be good, or be quick.

Not pretty, but many of the silicon type glues smeared across the space can work in an emergency. Place a piece of material on the back.Royce www.funshow.com.au
