Most probably been done to death in the past but can I please have pros and cons of the centre pole canvas tents.
Ranger Camping here in
Perth currently have a 20% off everything sale and the OzTent centre pole tent looks good and is very reasonably priced. Yer I know they are heavy and reasonably bulky.
Any advice either way would be appreciated.
Thanks

Once watered down properly they are marvellous,
I have the Freedom Family tourer and would not part with it. I have a mate that has the Oz Tent version of the same size and he can not fault it.
Although they are heavy they a
well worth the money and the extra weight.
Have a look at getting the conversion kit to remove the centre pole if you want extra internal room.
In
mine I can fit the double swag plus 2 single swags.
Cheers Kev

Centre Pole
Pro's: Get the misses to do some Pole dancing, saves paying for it !
Con's: Always in the way, pain in the ass..
Not bulky at all, folds up flat so usually goes on the floor first and pack stuff on top or pack it sideways !
Side Poles
Yep buy them and enjoy putting it up in five minutes and enjoy the room !
cheers

I found that whilst the centre pole has a nice wide rubber base, the side poles didn't and it looked like it was putting quite a load on a confined area of the floor.
Nothing a couple of chunks of scrap rubber to spread the load didn't fix though.

This would be a real prob IMO if all other gear has to be packed on top of tent. Tent is almost always the first thing to be put up and last to go in when I go camping. I have bad memories of my youth with a centre pole tent. Being the boy, I got the side of the tent and almost always got left with no room. 2 adults and 2 kids, 8x8 tent. 2 single airbeds just didn't fit in half the tent. No recent experience with them though so maybe they are a bit bigger now???
Cheers, Trevor.
