Has anyone had anything to do with upgrading the
suspension on the D40. With a Blackwidow draw unit, 60 ltr engel plus camping gear and a camper trailer hooked up there isn't to much travel left in fact last trip it bottomed out quite a bit. ARB and TJM both recommended replacing front and rear springs and shocks to the tune of $1800 -$2200. Does any one know if it's to go to this extreme or would something like an extra leaf in
the springs be Any help in deciding on which way to go would be appreciated
Cheers Dave

If your happy with the ride and lack of clearance then why waste the money, I would probably look at air bags before an extra leaf so as to keep the ride nice when empty.

Hey itsdave,
I got a d22 and although unloaded the rear springs are flat...... Couldn't bear the thought of loading up the tray with 850kg of fuel, water and supplies.
Went to
suspension place and for $455 they would add another leaf.
Don't want to spend too much as am selling it upon my return of my next adventure

Hi Dave
I have just had TJM
suspension fitted to my D40 a couple of weeks ago and barted the price down to $1645 fitted, inculding greasable shackles and urethane bushings. Went with the 40mm lift front and rear with the 150kg springs rear (intermediate), the ride is firmer but is still just as comfortable and not harsh, it has made a big difference on corrugated roads where it doesnt float around like it did before.
I was having the same problem as you with the camper on and gear in the back which was the reason for the upgrade, I also looked at an extra leaf or airbags but decided on the package as I also wanted the front lifted, and the extra clearance does make a difference, I have not had a chance to load it up for a full
test yet but we are heading out for a few weeks next month so hopefully it will prove itself worth while.
Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris
Looks like I'll go the same way as you with front and rear. I think just doing the rear may still leave it a little soft in the front if its not done as
well and also the rear would be higher I'd imagine. Be interesting to see how it handles loaded up
Cheers Dave

Little bit far to travel unfortunatly as I'm on the
Gold Coast. Pity as we came thru the Snowys 8 weeks ago on our last trip.
Thanks anyway

Maybe he has a kit you can buy and install yourself or your local mechanic? They look like awesome
suspension systems.....

I had Ride Pro
suspension package fitted to my D22, and the difference it made was nothing short of brilliant.

Hi Chris
The front measures 480mm from centre of wheel to guard and the rear is 505mm. Although I dont think this is an accurate measument on the rear because of the load in the back i.e Black widow drawer unit and the 60ltr Engel. Looks like I wont be able to go with
the springs and shock idea as I wont have enough clearance to get into the Garage (also have roof racks on)
Cheers Dave

Sorry guys i am away working at the moment and wont be
home for another 3 weeks so I am unable to take measurements, but im sure it ended up just over 40mm higher than original, front and rear as they log the before and after measurements for warranty records.
Thats a shame about the height problem Dave as it is worth the mone in my opinion, looks like you might have to go the airbag route.

G'day Itsdave
We have one at work with canopy, _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx, fridge, lr tank & a heap of
tools so it weighs in at 2.85t with a full fuel load.
We had ARB Mackay install HD
suspension upgrade front & rear & are very pleased with it.
Its a great "car" to drive, highway or corrugated dirt roads.
Why don't you try getting Nissan to pay for heavier
suspension? If the ute is still within its rated load then the rig as sold should have
suspension to cope with it!
Good luck.
