6 weeks and 1 day to go, were heading off from
Perth to Flinders, Gammon and
Gawler ranges. On the way back we have a little extra time and was thinking of doing some whale watching, is this the right time of Year?

Thats a pain, from memory there are several spots to look out over the Bight. Not sure of when there around though.

"Between June and October of each year up to 100 Southern Right Whales frequent this area of the South Australian coastline to breed and give birth to whale calves. "

Yep.
Head of the Bight is a great spot to get up close to the whales.
The locals have a good facility there and it is run a professional manner.

We have called in twice at
Head of Bight and both times it was fantastic with the whales very close to shore.

Noldi last July we crossed over and called into the Whale watching facility that is
sign posted on the SA side of the border. Cost I think from memory $10 each to go down the board walk through the kiosk and info centre. At the time we counted 12 within eye sight and apparently 60 where in the bay. Directly below the board walk and about 20m off shore we saw 2 cows with their calf's. Could of spent hours there but it was cold and miserable. Excellent photo and video opportunities.
