Hi Folks,

A solution shared...

Just to remind you I recently posted, seeking help with obtaining an aluminium extrusion that would fit into the awning track, which when once cut into small sections would allow a shade cloth to be hung but gathered to the side like a curtain when not required.

After 190 reads no one knew of the extrusion. Barry (Thanks) suggested I make them as he had and I was in the process of buying the flat bar aluminium when "avachat" stepped in. The aluminium supplier suggested a local boat cover manufacturer may already have something like it . Yes he did... an adaption but better.

There already is an awning fitting... a rope wrapped in plastic with a 20mm flat section.... in a normal application you sew the shade cloth to the flat section and fit the rope into the awning track at each stop..

The boat trimmer simply stamped 2 eyelets into the flat section and then cut the length of rope and flat section with industrial scissors, about 10mm either side of the eyelet. The 40mm long rope part is inserted into the awning track... you insert as many sections as you feel necessray... I have had 15 . one per 300mm. (40cents each)

Being vinyl covered rope rather my idea to use metal inserts there is no wear factor on the awning channel or electrolysis. The shade cloth can be gathered easily. But the big advantage of the adaption IMHO is that the rope sections with the eyelets stay in/on the track permanently and roll up with the awning without a problem thus making the shade cloth errection as easy as hooking it to the eyelets.
