Hi,
I am looking around for an aluminium (or other) tool box to fit onto my trailer.
The ones I saw at Supercheap Auto were to small.
Does anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable price.
I live in
Canberra so around that area would be good - am going to
Sydney for a trip soon so any where this side of
Sydney would be OK.
Many thanks
Richard

Hi Oldman
I was at Repco today and they have a great range of boxes in alloy checker plate in good shapes and sizes.
Regards
Derek.

Many thanks for the replies - I will check them out.
A bit of a follow up question - how have people mounted the toolbox into the A frame.
I checked it out at the place I bought the tool box and they had screwed them on to the frame but I am a bit concerned how this will go if I hit some rough road
Thanks again
Richard

Either fit realy big washers( 50mm ) or a strip of flat bar and bolt through that so you are clamping the base of the box down (preferred method) otherwise the bolts will crack through the base

Hi Oldman
What I done when I fitted
mine was to fit a sheet of ply inside the box to give you a bit of extra support and also welded extra cross brasses between the chasis under the box as I carry a bit of weight in the box ie. batteries etc....
And as metioned above by kev.h use large washers and spring washers.
I have also lined my box (on camper...keep it clean haha) with high density foam so if anything comes loose it wont smash and dent or split the box.

OOps I meant "where I bought the camper" - ain't got the tool box yet
Richard
An yet another question - will drilling holes through the frame weaken it? Or are you using U bolts or something else?

My tool box is about 1200x500x500 and is the thin gal one that is why I gave it so much support. I welded some 50x50x6mm angle onto the cross beams so I didn't have to drill the chassis,I put rubber pads under the box as
well and used 10mm stainless bolts and nuts. Took it to the cape last year and hasn't moved only wish I had put a stone deflector on it as it was peppered with stones still if you like the hammer tone affect it looks good.

Without meaning to be a "wet blanket", a large loaded Tool Box mounted on the A Frame may increase the towball weight considerably, possibly even enough to be an overload situation. The A Frame/towbar may even need to be reinforced to carry the extra load
From my experience, most storage spaces on campers and caravans tend to be filled to capacity at some time or another.
Just a note of caution.
