Hi Bilbo,
I came across your thread about soundproofing the V8. Got in touch with Marlin who referred me over to a mob in
Sydney (since we're in
Cobar).
Anyway we've got the sheet of insulation sitting and ready to be installed under the 80 series bonnet.
The noise can get a bit much after a while on the longer trips so hopefully this will make a bit of a difference, actually no doubt it will because our current felt stuff was just about falling to bits, I ripped it off in preparation yesterday & even without that decaying thin layer the engine is very much noticeably louder. Hopefully it will do the trick otherwise he may have to reconsider the flow through muffler!
It's got the sticky backing so Hubby plans to stick it to the bonnet and then put new toyota retaining pins on.
So just wanted to say thanks for the idea, and if I'd known the state of the old lining and that it was falling apart just about I would have made Hubby get onto it earlier (mind you I'm the one who does all the research when it comes to most stuff).
Cheers,
Kristina

Hi Kristina
Bilbo is on the road somewhere in Northern Australia. We last heard from him from
Kununurra about two weeks ago. No doubt he will do a search when he comes back online again and may reply to your post.
Cheers

Thanks, the bloke from Marlin did say that Bilbo might be out travelling (I mentioned that I found his business through the exploreoz thread). If nothing else this may help someone else find his original thread should they be considering some soundproofing.
I guess this means I'll have to get back on here and let you all know if it made any difference too.

The stuff is called Soundsorber Barrier, it's the 20mm thickness stuff comes in 1.3 x 1m sheets (perfect fit for the bonnet pretty much) and also comes in rolls.
Product website:
www.soundguard.com.au
And the actual product link.
Soundsorber Barrier
I used the
Sydney contact & spoke to Phillip as recommended by Mark from Marlin.
Contacts
And if youre in WA then the bloke I spoke to (who Bilbo went through) was Mark from Marlin Insulation & Seals (Ph: (08) 94332550)
Hope this helps. Pretty thick stuff though so first thing is to make sure you have enough room under the bonnet.
