quickest way from Melb to Townsville

Travelmate is a good site and up until about 3 years ago they were very accurate for distance and travel times. However, it seems someone has had a play with the site, distances are pretty well spot on but travel times, especially inland are very very conservative.

I was planning a trip from Broken Hill to Ballina and for most of the trip it worked on an average of only 60km/h. That might work on the coast or even in town but between the Hill and Cobar I reckon your average speed could creep up slightly above that.

Thanks for replies everyone. Doug, you suggest Kidman is shorter but Castlereagh is faster (even though its about 100kms longer). Any particular reason for this? Thanks.

I used the GPS software City Navigator v7, it worked the shortest but I feel some of that will be unsealed, so as you should know sometimes the shortest way is not always the fastest way,
The setting was set for Car/Motorcycle, Let me give you a quik example of how good this software is .
You make a start point in Ann St Brisbane between Edward and Roma St and make a destination on Ann St between Hutton Lane and Wharf St whick is back along a one way street, it in a flash shows you a route forward down to Rome St and then back along Turbot St to Wharf St and right into Ann St , It won't go back because Ann is one way , then when you change the setting to Pedestrian and recalculate it zips straight back up Ann St because ...well you can walk a one way St
