Just lifted the bonnet after two weeks, and found the HD battery full of cr*p on the terminals and cross bar (big time).
Water levels are ok. Anyone come accross this before?
I might add that the battery is four years old and has taken a bit of rough treatment in that time.
Regards
Kim

KIM,
i found this to be the case on my old hilux, so i pulled the battery out, washed with boiling
water, filed the terminal to a shiny finish, recrimped the conectors, and it was good for,
well until i sold it.
good luck

Thanks. Already washed it off and will clean up the terminals tomorrow morning and re-grease. I think the poor old thing is terminal (bit like me).

I have had the same (white fury masses) on batteries in the past. I was told hot
water with a spoonful of Bi Carb of soda poured over the terminals then rince off with cold
water. Seemed to work for me. Don't remember if the batteries packed up shortly after or not but its worth a go.

Hot / warm
water & bi-carb works for me too.
Havn't overfilled the battery at some stage and some boiled or got shaken out?
Caps vary in quality, some have good labryinth seals inside and some don't.

I would also check your charging circuit as the fur can be a result of too much zoom!
Should be around 13.8 volts when at idle too much more will grow fur!

Kim,
A fairly normal occurrence on most vehicle batteries, over time.
As mentioned, a little bi-carb of soda mixed in warm
water will neutralise the acid.
Clean the terminals and cable clamps with a wire brush and coat the terminals with vaseline before reconnecting. I have also found a pair of impregnated felt pads (green and red) available from Kmart, Super Cheap, Repco, etc. also helps to stop the buildup from reoccurring. You can also buy a cheap wire brush cleaner from the same
places which are specifically designed for battery terminals and cable clamps.
