Has anyone been along the Rippon Hills Rd, down to Carawine Gorge and then on through Woody and Nifty mines to enter Rudall River NP from the north lately? Is the track past the mines suitable for an off road camper? Any road conditions to report?

Thank you.

Hi Flasher,
I did the reverse about 3 years ago. It's about 70km from Nifty to the Rudall-Telfer road, coming out just north of Moses Chair. On the western end, it is quite wide, as it is maintained by exploration camps in the area. About midway, there are some sandy patches, and towards the eastern end, there is a short section which passes over clay pans, which could get a bit sticky when wet, tho it was wet when I went over it, and it was still firm (luckily). Otherwise it was a pretty easy run. Can supply a plot from OziExplorer if you would like.

Hi Flasher

We did that track but in the reverse direction this time last year. The track is very sandy in places and was obviously well used by mine drill rigs etc. In saying that, the track was probably some of the best "road" we covered. The main track south into Rudall River is Ok, but some of the side tracks eg to Desert Queens etc can be slow going. We had come from the Canning via the Talawana Track, so found the going quite good. It made a great shortcut for us to Nullagine to get fuel for one of the vehicles in our group.

A bit slower than us and with some reduced tyre pressures and it would be OK. Look out for the excellent displays of flowers in the region, especially given that it rained earlier in the year.

Cheers

Wayne
