Can anyone recommend a good battery for cranking and a second one for the fridge/lights etc. I am installing a dual system. In Melbourne pls preferably north/east subs. I am still using the original in the playdoe after 5 years.

For a starting battery, the Exide Extreme is hard to beat for value, performance and availability.

For an Auxiliary, one of the AGM style deep cycle batteries will give the best performance. Just keep in mind, size (footprint) may be an issue if you are installing it in the Engine bay.

I second the motion for an Exide Extreme :-))

Could also use a second one for your auxiliary. Value for money wise, won't really matter if it only lasts 4 years instead of five....

Personally I have an Exide as the starter and a Trojan deep cycle as the auxiliary, but only cause I got it at the right price.

Hi fujimiester
I use identical Exide Extremes in the vehicle and the camp trailer (if the vehicle battery fails, I can pinch the one out of the camp trailer to keep rolling) The second battery in the vehicle is an Optima yellow top and it has been a terrific battery for years but they are expensive. One of the main things I like about it is its ability to take charge quickly. Apparently you can charge one in 35 minutes if you can provide enough juice, some deep cycle batteries take a lot longer. We then use 2 x 40 watt solar panels to keep it all charged during long stops.
Cheers
Peter

Optima info not mine. From experience, I know that it charges fully without too many miles of driving.

Yes, Optima is AGM technology so will recharge quickly, those with-out AGM often don't understand and looks like they may not believe the benefits available with AGM batteries either lol

The best one I have found for cranking the Nissan over is Supercharge Gold(720cca from memory ) runs rings around Exide Extreme and standard battery .

fj, just a question, who will you believe when you get two or three different replies that appear to make sence to the relevant posters ??

Have you asked a "Specialist Battery Supplier" the same two questions?

What brand of battery do you presently use ??
