Hi all,
We are looking at driving from
Renmark to the Flinders via
yunta. has anyone donr the trip recently and can give us an idea of
camping along the way that is compatible with the wishes of landholders. Road conditions too i guess, but will keep an eye on the weather. Oh, and anything special to see on the way.
Thanks all

Not sure where you are going in the Flinders Beastie, but going up the
Arkaroola Rd you go right past the Koonamore and Curnamona homesteads.
If you want permission to
camp on either property, I would suggest just call in and ask.
They are probably on Channel 3 if you call them first.
In other locations when I have stopped at a
homestead and asked permission to
camp on their property, they are so amazed that someone has actually asked, they have suggested a good place to
camp.
Further up the road is Big Moro Gorge, and you need permission from Wertaloona to use this track according to the latest information I have.
The
Arkaroola Road is generally in good condition.
No fuel along there.

Dave. Thanks for the reply. Note whenever I have found people on my property I seem to get furious, whenever they come and ask I seem to spend time showing them around. Guess we are all the same and should treat other landholders likewise.

As for where we are going?? Have Grindell's booked for a couple of days but am open to suggestions otherwise. Bit of walking, skytrek sound interesting, or are other tracks recommended. say Mt Arden? Love the Flinders, but have spent more time in the gammons. Wandered up Mt John Roberts last August in fact.

Beastie, the trip from
Renmark to
Yunta should only take about 5 hours. You could call into Danggalli
Homestead and see Mate Osborn the
Ranger their. He is a wealth of information. About 5k's or so North of
Yunta there is a great
camp site near some od Pepper trees I think they are.

Yep as everyone has stated. Frome Downs Station however do not seem to encourage visitors calling in as a
sign states at
the entrance to the station
On your way after
Yunta call in at
Waukaringa Ruins and
Mine site. There is an enormous chimney. Cant miss it.
MIne site is about 3km off the road with public access.
The road from
Yunta to
Arkaroola is normally in good condition.
Lake Frome itself can be accessed from National Parks HQ at
Balcanoona
Cheers

Des and Willem
Thanks for taking the time to offer suggestions. Makes this a good
forum. Think as we go now we have some idea of what to see and who to speak to. Thanks again

I have done Skytrek and Arkapeena, and I like Arkapeena better, but that's just IMHO.
I think therer is more variation in the scenery at Arkapeena.
No association yada yada.
