G'day,
I'm a first timer here so be kind! I ventured up to Cole Crossing last week after fishing at Waitpinga for salmon.
My mate assured me that the first 'obstacle' wasn't that deep as he had run his petrol Pajero (without snorkle) through the
water.
I think he forgot to tell me that was before the rain!
Just a tad deep.
The second run saw a mud bath.
and some fun on very mild tracks.
It is a very pretty part of the Southern Vales and worth the run and a picnic.
Cheers,
Matt.

Just a matter of pasting the URL between the double quotation marks.
Interesting track mate.

I would suggest from your 1st photo that you may be actually lucky enough to be riding on top of the ruts. In the 4 times I have done it I have found it actually a lot deeper than that in the ruts (over my bonnet)!
There is quite a deep hole on the right side (looking straight on in your photo) that drops that corner of the vehicle
well underwater and gets the heart pumping.

Matt,
Just to fill you on a bit of history, Some years back, Cox's Scrub was a secret 4wd playground which had a
water crossing (pretty rare in SA!) and a track they called the chassis twister. Then word got out and the area was getting trashed so badly by 4wds, it got closed. I think there was also the odd occasion when fences were cut down. So the area is a touchy subject to some people.
Cheers

Thank's for the head's up guy's.
Sounds like some of my 'secret' fishing drops in the Gulf! All the same it is a very pretty part of the State and more interesting than the bitumen track to Victor Harbour.
Some blokes from work and my Fishing club are off to
Peake for a play in a couple of weeks. I guess I'll have to keep that quiet too. At least it is on private property.
Cheers,
Matt.

No need to keep
Peake quiet - its booked out 52 weeks a year by clubs. You'll have a really good time there - its a great place to learn what your vehicle will and won't do in sand.
cheers

1 mullet and one 2.5 lb Salmon. I have heard that much bigger fish have been caught after dusk. Unfortunately we tried our luck at first light on a rising tide.
It was my first session at Waits, and it lived up to it's reputation of being hit and miss.

I watched a video of my mate going through Coles a few weeks back, over the bonnet in a GU with 4" of lift. You've got to watch that
creek as it rises pretty quickly after rain.

the
creek at Coles isn't the issue, thats got a stoney bottom and shouldn't trouble anyone.
The bog hole is a different issue. Fills up and doesn't soak in for a long time. Have lost 2 number plates in there! Went back in summer when all was dry and found a few plates but none of them
mine!
If you are coming from the Mt Compass end hug the right and you may avoid sliding into the ruts (or visa versa from the other way) but in the ruts it is over the bonnet on my GU!
By the way Pat, I have PM'ed you on another
forum but no reply?
Cheers
