Reluctantly we may need to sell our well equipped 2004 Pajero GLS to buy a 4WD with greater towing capacity. We want to advertise it where serious 4WD people will see it because it has a number of additions eg snorkel, extra fuel tank, second battery, drawer system with roll out fridge drawer, fridge, UHF radio etc. We are looking for advice about the best place to advertise it and will be greatful for any advice. Many thanks.

Thanks Kev. Do you mean the Trader on Exploroz or the Trading Post?

The ExplorOz one as well as the trading post.

But the one here has a more direct market.

Cheers Kev

Why not get a membership here on ExplorOz- allowing you advert with pics- and heaps of prospective buyers...
I have sold quite a number of items thru the Trader on here- and I can vouch for it.

Hi there Highlands, every car/4wd bought and sold has been on www.carsales.com.au heaps cheaper then trading post especially if you want to put pictures on the add which seems to sell better when people can see what your advertising. I have owned believe it or not over 40 vehicles including 2 bikes except for the bikes and the 4 new cars I have bought the rest have been through carsales including the prado I have now and the hilux I sold to a bloke in Bega NSW and will cost you about $29. I find the trading post you are competing with two many dealerships and the good thing about carsales is you can also click on private buyers only which doesnt bring up all the dealers. The trading post years ago wasnt too bad as it was all for private sellers only but now it is overtaken with dealerships. I also find that the more effort you put into the cleaning of the vehicle even touching up little stone chips, steam cleaning if needed, make sure the engine is clean and I dont mean just from oil leaks which Im sure you wouldnt have but just the general dust and dirt, spare wheel hanging off the back, clean windows etc you will have a better chance and if it has been serviced make sure its up to date logbooks wise. DONT cover the dashboard and internals with armoural shiny crap most people hate it cause it leaves everything feeling greasy and if your a smoker clean out the ashtray with toothbrush in the groves and if yourve used the lighter do the same with the toothbrush and clean the element on the end of it. Put a little air freshner in it either a spray type or some thing under the seats. Good luck in selling it and hope you get the price your after. Regards Steve M

Many thanks Steve. I appreciate the trouble you have gone to to help us out. Thankfully no one has ever smoked in our Pajero.

Good advice to use carsales.com as I've just sold my Defender there for top dollar and it only took around 4 weeks with quite a few inquiries.
Cost $59 for an ad. with 7 pics plus a long description.
Well worth the money and I'll use it in the future as it represented much better value than the Sunday Times here in the West.
Good luck.
Alan.

That's encouraging Alan. Could I ask you and Steve how you decided what price to advertise your vehicle at.

Thanks

I just looked through the existing ads. and went from there. The cook/cleaner wanted more but then she even wants more out of me so she's a bit unrealistic about some things!
I started advertising in the local Sunday rag at a bad time just around when I went into hosp. for an op. which wasn't good planning, but after 3 weeks and a lukewarm response changed to carsales on the recommendation of someone else. Good advice as it turned out.
The ads. run until you take them off so they represent good value and reach a huge audience.
Good luck.
Alan.

Hi there Highlands, I pretty much was the same as Alan H just observed other prices and gor from there. I f you see some thing with really high klms and yours are lower for eg then yours will be worth more taking into account the condition as well. I sold my hilux for 10k 89 SR5 2.8d with 3k short of 300k. But I reckon I got that cause it was in great nick no rust and full log books since it was on the road. I mean every reciept even for wiper blades and every oil filter that I replaced was documented on the toyota receipt with klms and date changed. I think this is what sold it I saw some that were cheaper and less klms but no service history, and the bloke that bought it from me was from Bega and im in Penrith and he told me condition and service history kept bringing him back to mine. You can check red book but I think some times there prices are way out either by too high or to low. Even though extras like tow bar, bullbar, etc cost us a fortune to put on nes they still add that little bit extra when you sell it but I think just makes it easier. Best of luck. regards Steve M

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears as if you have flown under the radar & successfully slipped an ad in to the forum.

You are wrong. Our vehicle is not on the market. It has never been on the market. It will only go on the market if we cannot find any other way of resolving a complex problem that has been encountered by a caravan manufacturer. After considerable research we have found nothing on the market, new or used, that we can afford and that we would rather have than our vehicle.

Thank you for your kindness.
