Hi All,
In June of 2008 a group of friends and I will be going on a trip, I am interested to know if I have allocated enough time for the trip, maybe some of you seasoned travellers can guide the group if we have bitten of more than we can chew. Here is the planned trip.
.Queens birthday Finke desert race 4 days
.Depart Alice and head west through
Yuendumu and keep going
till we meet up with the top half of the CSR at
Kunawarritji
.Travel on to
Derby and start the Bibb River Track
.Finish somewhere around
Katherine and head back to Alice.
. Total time 6 Weeks
Well that's about it I would love to hear some of your suggestions be they positive or negative.
Regards Padre

I'm assuming a couple of things:
1. You'll be travelling up the Tanimi Rd from Alice and stocking up in
Halls Creek.
2. Back to Billinuna and down the Canning to
kunawarritji (I might add that this Aboriginal settlement is a bit further South than the "top end of the Canning").
Little unclear how your going to proceed after that. From
Kunawarritji, are you heading West via the Wapet or Talawana?
I haven't heard of the Bibb River Track, and assuming you mean the
Gibb River Rd. If you can supply a bit more information it would be helpful.

Kim

Hi Kim,
We are
Alice Springs based and our first 4 days will be somewhere on the Finke race track.
We will then head N/W along
the Tanami track for a short while (120klms), we then will be turning on to the
Gary Junction Road which will take us through
Papunya, Wallungurru, Kiwirrukurra and then on to
Kunawarritji about
well 33 on the CSR.
From there it will be
Halls Creek, then
Derby, along the "GIBB" River Road and finish up somewhere in the
Katherine region, or we may even go back to Alice via
Timber Creek, Top Springs and come back onto
the Tanami Track around Rabbit Flat.
Thanks for taking the time to reply Kim I look forward to more input.
Regards

That clears up a bit of confusion. But I'm still perplexed about one thing. From dim memory the track your talking about is East of Yuenduma heading past Mt Zeil through to
Papunya.
The area around
Timber Creek is
well worth while, if you can find a local to introduce you to some of the station owners.
Six weeks should do it.

Kim

Hi Kim,
Thanks for the input, I thought 6 weeks would be enough, I hope so because I only get 6 weeks annual leave. I guess we can always get the skates on for the trip out to W.A we have probably seen country like that on a regular basis from living out here.
Thanks again Kim

Fitzroy Crossing.Napier Downs take a tourch and walk threw the tunnel keep an eye out for small crays that live in the
water pools about halfway threw Ithink on the left sie up a sand bank there is a small
cave you can walk about 30mts into it if you can find it anyway have a good trip.

Last time I was in
Tunnel Creek I was leading a group of four women through the darkness... at the time there was a fair amount of
water, and I was wading through ahead of them.
On one of the longer sections - say 15m or so, I was almost across the other side when they started following - first one of them scared one of the larger crays in there - rather long pointy nose, sharp teeth and eyes at the top of it's nose, as
well as a rather rapidly moving tail.
It took flight in the stillness of the
cave with a lot of splashing and noise, much to the sheet consternation and terror of the girls... I had to peel them off the roof, but was having trouble stopping the rolling on the floor laughing.

Hi Batts,
Whith a name like that I find it quite comical that you would be directing me to a
cave, you don't have a friend called "Robin" do you?
Seriously, thank you so much for the info I will be sure to have a look at it. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me.
