Off to Eyre and York peninsulas in September and October this year with tray top camper on new Ford Ranger and 4.85 Trailcraft, would appreciate any information about boat launching facilities down there.

Where abouts are you heading? You are talking about 2000 km of coastline.
All coastal towns have boat ramps, ranging from mediocre up to fully equipped marinas. You wont have any problems with a 4.85 Trailcraft. Just do it:o)
Great part of the world, and great fishing.

Colin,

Facilities at many of the Launch Ramps in SA have been going though significant upgrades over the past few years and will be a continuing process for some time.
Funding for this is through Boat Registrations, etc. and as boaties actually see the improvements made, few would (should) complain.

Using Stansbury on York Peninsula as an example, the launching facilities have been upgraded from a basic concrete ramp with a fixed access dock, submerged at high tide, sticking out like a sore thumb and extremely challenging at low tide, to an all weather floating dock that is much easier and safer to use in harsh weather conditions.

These floating docks are gradually being "rolled out" throughout SA fishing areas as funding allows and generally, most major town facilities are pretty good.

Colin, we are ex-SA fishos now in NSW: compared to Sydney/NSW generally, the facilities in SA range from good to excellent. You will love it on both peninsulars.

Port Victoria (on Yorke Peninsula) is just great for King George Whiting but you should get them just about anywhere you fish close to weed patches. If you have a GPS you can MM me for some good spots. Should be lots of squid so take some jags too.

Be aware: Large white pointers in the area.

Cheers, RayJen
