Which way is best to go ??
Hi everyone..hope to dip into the huge collective knowledge here & am seeking some advice.
We are heading off on our first "big trip"
We have a Troopy & Caravan and plan to be on the road for at least 12 months with two kids, 5 & 2.5yrs.
Our initial plan was to head north (from
Sydney) up the coast (Anti Clockwise, which I believe is advisable). But our departure has now been delayed from March to Early September.
Are we leaving it too late to head North?
We were planning to go up to Northern Qld, across to
Darwin & over to Nth W.A.........
I am thinking now we will not have enough time as you should not be up in the North after October ???
Looking for some feedback from other's that have departed in say September and what their itineraries included?
Thanks in advance !

I would say its a bit late to go north, why don't you just flip the itinery and head west first? by the time you take your time doing the southern part of Australia and start heading up the west coast it should be around May and perfect time to be up north!

Might be useful to provide a little more info, such as what type of caravan etc.
Some vans need to pretty
well stay on the black top, others are good offroad.

Burke and Wills left
Melbourne in August. History tells us that it was a bad decision. Go clockwise and be on the ocean side. Spend summer in the cooler states and be ready to go up the west coast next winter. Go on you already know that that's the way to do it!

Clarkie, I wouldn't be heading north at that time if you plan on staying a while and seeing the country. And I assume that is the plan. You might be OK if you stay on the black top all the time, but what's the point of that.
I suspect the heat, humidity and insects would drive you out quickly. Also you have the real risk of being stuck with closed roads for a few weeks. Many of the more desirable
places are simply not accessable during the wet season.
I think it is better to time the trip so that you spend the summer in the south and the winter in the north. Up to you to decide if this is by delaying the trip or changing the route.
