Hi all
I have done a few searches and noticed that the
Walkers Crossing Trek Notes are still under construction.
Can anyone provide some info on the track from
Birdsville to Inaminka and suitability for draging an offroad
camping trailer?
Pictures would be great if anyone has some.
Cheers
Steve

Walkers crossing is a really nice run from
Birdsville to
Innamincka and you would normally have no problems with an off road camper along that route.
At the
Birdsville Track end it is gibber country and moves to sandy dune country as you get closer to
Innamincka. We had a leisurely start in
Birdsville, we didn't leave until about 1030am and took our time arriving in
Innamincka late in the afternoon.
I think you will find that the track is closed at the moment and that there is a good chance it will not re-open this year.

Also yep re the trailer - quite straight forward on that track - as Duncs said, gazetted now as closed - whenever they get a good flood down the Cooper, that low laying area stays very squishy for ages. Last time I looked, very easy to miss the turn off when running down the BV track too - bit of a moonscape there - the signs get pinched at times (or the locals might take them down too - I often think we 'terrorists' are quite unwelcome at times) - would pay to get a GPS lat from members here for that, just in case.

It seems very few people know about
the Desert Parks Bulletin link.
http://www.parks.sa.gov.au/publish/groups/public/@parks/@desertparks/documents/all/parks_pdfs_des_parks_bulletin.pdf
This gives you all the regular information you will need and can be checked on a regular basis. It also offers links to the outback road guide provided by the Dept of Transport in SA and it also links to the NT.
You will also find some contact numbers for the rangers as
well

Steve,
we travelled from
Birdsville to
Innamincka via
Cordillo downs and we saw trailers and campers, the road was very good. The
bore track to bollards
lagoon is in flower and the best i have seen it for years.

Steve
We did it 2 years ago so not relevant to current conditions but as far as a camper goes, we towed an Aussie Swag with an NM petrol Paj and no probs. Very pleasant drive (altho had to go without lunch stop as the wind was ferocious). Slow going at the
Birdsville end due to stones as mentioned by someone else.
Had to concentrate on turns though as
signage was a bit rough at the time.

Did it last July !
Took out Camper, and did it easy ,,,
Rough and slow at the
Birdsville Track end for the first ( maybe ) 20 km, due to the seemingly endless gibber, but it soon opens up to sandy tracks.
its a gr8 run ,, but beware if it has rained,,
Check at
Birdsville Caravan Park for info ,, or just ring Innaminka Tradiing Post, and ask for tif its open, they will help, and be only too happy to do so.
email me at,,, bloh@aapt.net.au for pice, and somewhere I have my gGarmin eTrek track log ,, if you have the software, you can put it on your GPS, just to be sure
Cheers Mate
Bucky
