Doug, this a.m. I tried to magnify and read the names on the buildings and look at the number plates - without success. Have you been able to work out from the number plates what States they might be in?

Yes towns 3/4/5 are NSW. Town 2 is Vic, My Parents travelled the shows mainly Western Vic, New England and Southern / Western NSW / and Southern Qld around the Roma/Mitchell area, When I can find towns 1 and 2 and run them through the new scanner i might be able to see if it's Qld or Vic , I guess I won't die if I can't get names for them ......Town No 4 not Birdsville is it .....Cough

Doug, definitely not Birdsville - LOL. Ian is a Blackall boy and at first look Town 1 looked like Blackall until, like the other person, you realised the first building was too tall.
I like Dusty's new tractor.

Doug, yes I did notice that. My family got our first LandRover about 1963- it was an old troopy with canvas back (LWB) and we loved it. Had the best gearbox - I learned to drive in it (up Double Island Point in the sand).
Remember, I bet your parents didn't have a 4WD - no one did that I can recall. The roads were goat tracks, particularly from Brisbane to the west and everyone had one of those wire netting screens that pulled down over the windscreen when someone was coming in the other direction.

My guess is Town 5 is Narrandera... the Radio shop looks a lot like the building that is now a cafe... and the license plates are NSW which matches.

You could be right, I wouldn't know, of course the shops would not be main st type , rear parking , NSW ...ok, Narrandera would have been on their show run, and I too have been into and through near all major towns in the Eastern States , Albury - Wodonga was another place they went to but none of the photo's look familiar . I should have asked him when he was still breathing,

I reckon pic 1 is looking West main street Kerang Victoria..that same spot today is a huge roundabout. The highway in the background goes over the railroad. usually the Kerang copper sits back in the shade and nabs everyone doing over 60kph down the incline.

Hi ya mate
Everyone thinks Byron Bay because of the shop name, I don't the old man ever went there in the late 60s Thats his Austin there and I just right now am thinking Wentworth , that car he got in 1968 and I had the Cortina in 1969 and he did go to Wentworth show in 1969 , The buildings looks very westernised
I reackon T3 is a western NSW too, , Geez I'm nearly pulling hair over this ,

2 has Resch's beer but Victorian number plates (and everyone owns a Holden...) must be a NSW/Vic border town.

I reckon 3 is Braidwood

4 possibly Yass
