Just sold an Off Road Jayco Van because it wasn't fit for purpose. Had a look around at what I really needed, but gave little thought to price.

Decided on a WA brand and started to talk about the cost....

Can somebody explain, how a fancy little trailer with a bit of canvas equals the price of a new car ($27,000)?

Me thinks that dog an I will continue to sleep in the back of the car and invest the money.

Seriously, I can't believe the cost of these things.

Regards

Kim

Bit off the subject matter, but what camera(s) are you using at the moment?

I've laughed at it for years that fools pay $30,000 for a box trailer with a $1000 tent on it.

I was going to build one my self, then needed one in a hurry so I bought one for $4500 second hand, I believe if I spend another $3000 grand I can make it exactly what I want.

Truckster

I'm still stuggling to understand why I purchased the Jayco in the first place. Dog and I have always been happy with a tarp, and sleeping in the car.

Yep, and I could buy a Lada Niva for one twentieth of what I payed for my fourby, but would it do what I need it to do? Of course not. It's the old adage...you get what you pay for. Our camper is $27,000.00 worth, but it's got stainless steel everything and a hard top and a boat lifter and a proper battery charger and GFM batteries and proper 12V pumps and inner-spring mattress and independent suspension and LED lighting and loads of storage space and a decent braking system and 2 tonne wheel bearings and wheels that match the fourby and genuine off-road BFG A/T tyres and...and...and....

Of course, I could have bought a box trailer and optioned it up from there....but why would I bother....someone else has already done the hard yards and done the job for me. Given the choice between cheap and chintzy and slumming it and Rolls Royce and revelling in it, I'll take Rolls Royce every time. You can have your $1000.00 special, I'll stick with my $27,000.00 excessive spend anytime.

Cheers

Russ.

You're not dumb Kim. I agree what's wrong with trying to get something that suits your purpose?
I have a little 3 person camper and the bloke I bought it from just used to travel Australia with his dog. He even had a separate water tank fitted for the woofer. I like that kind of bond between a human and an animal. Shame I didn't know earlier, we might have been able to trade!! Lol.

$27,000 is only mid-range, some soft tops are up to $45,000.

There are lots for sale secondhand, one a few (or more) years old willbe much cheaper and will invariably come with extra's
We've got a cub which is nearly 20 years old and owes us nothing, bought it new in 88, been all over Oz several times, will still be there when we want to use it again.

Ring up Tambo or have a look at their website. Fantastic value, plenty of change to upgrade the suspension if you really need to.

well done on selling the jayco good move! & $27000 for a off rd camper is cheap they can be up to $50000 but i cant justify the price at around $5000 for a quality canvas top makes the trailer a bit expensive
