Hey all,

Well as I am living in Broome and the in laws came up for a holiday so I take em up the Gibb River road.

We go to Bell gorge, sleep the night, then Winjanna Gorge and Tunnel Creek the next day. We follow Winjana rd to Great Nothern Hway, Fiztroy Crossing end. After a bunch of hours over the two days on the Gibb travelling behind other 4bies and campers etc the engine light come on in the 3ltr patrol and I lose power 20klm short of the Great Northern turn off.

I can go no faster than 85klms even when on the blacktop.....190klms to next road house towards Broome (Willare) so 2.5hrs later be get there.

Quick check shows the air filter is chokers as I have no snorkel and the MAF sensor has kicked in. Car still runs after fill up so of to Broome at 85klms per hr.

Just out form Willare the sun is setting and another Patrol is parked at a Bridge and a bloke is taking photos an das I draw nearer I notice the EO sticker emblazened across the windscreen.

I pull over and ask if he has a spare air filter....and he does...I fix him up with $30..I asked him what he wants for it as I had no idea...I hope I didnt rip him off. Anyhow I also disconnect the Battery for 5mins to attmept to reset the fault code.

We get back on the road, but still no power, however after another fifty klms the power returned and we are motoring towards Broome.

Thanks to you m8 in the dark blue Patrol we didnt even get to exchange names, but I promised i would post on the sight .

Cheers.

If you have a dual battery fitted, this could be why your air filter got full of crap, not so much cos you don't have a snorkel. It happened to me.

When the aux battery tray is fitted, it is necesarry to give the airfilter box a bit of a push towards the front, this breaks the seal in the air intake pipe and allows dust to be sucked straight into the aitfilter from inside the engine bay.

Mine happened between Karijini NP and Port Hedland, the guy at Nissan Port Hedland said he'd not seen so much crap in a Patrol airfilter before.

If you give the air filter box a little push you will see the gap open up where the plastic pipe touches the left inner guard.

Just goes to show the depth of this EO community to which we all contribute. I am sure that without the EO sticker the guy wouldve been only too happy to help out but its the sticker that gave u the "in" to ask.

I have always said, a like minded mob with a common set of thought will make a difference. EO does that.
