Derek from Affordable Batteries & Radiators
We have just returned from a quick getaway to Cooloola and
Rainbow Beach in QLD.
The weather was good and a big fire helped keep the chill away at sunset. Driving conditions were good and
the beach very quite and not too soft.
We decided to take the inland track from Freshwater
Camp to
Rainbow beach for lunch as it was high tide and would try
the beach road back at low tide.
We passed the new showers and
toilet dump station at Freshwater
Camp and this is a big improvement. I hope to see some of these along
the beach soon.
Our lunch was one of the best we have had in a long time. We found a new bistro at the top of
Rainbow Township near the walking track to the sand blow.
The view is one of the best around and we saw a few whales in the
water below. The Bistro is worth a visit and is an upmarket licensed family restaurant with a great menu and atmosphere. Here is a link to there site if you wish to have a look.
Bistro
After Lunch we took
the beach road back to Cooloola. It was easy to pass the rocks at
Rainbow Beach but the last few hundred meters at th end of
the beach is almost gone.
We had to wait until the low tide and then still idle through some
water to get around the trees. I would say this road will be closed for good in a few months if not sooner.
People traveling through to Fraser will have to start using the highway soon.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Regards
Derek.

Hi Derek.
Nice photos.
I am surprised that the section of
Rainbow Beach hasn't been closed permanently.
The bistro was featured on Queensland Weekender & appears a very good spot for a bite to eat.
The Freshwater
camp spot looks great. Has the Council cut back on beach
camping along that section of
the beach?
Regards.

Hi Vince
The beach camping looks the same as it was for the last 5 years that I have been going there. I don't think it has been reduced. There are more
bins and I hope there will be
toilet dump sites at the
bins soon. It is really quite off putting to find a nice spot and see
toilet paper in the bushes and open holes and buckets left lying around.
I think it should be a condition of beach
camping that you carry a portable
toilet and dispose of the contents in a proper fashion.
Regards
Derek.

"I am surprised that the section of

The storms over the last year have almost done that, as Derek's photos show, not much beach left behind the point. Its been a few months since we last got up there and things haven't changed much at all.
Got to agree with you on the
toilet issue Derek, portable loos and dump sites you can access would be a huge improvement over the current situation.
We had the same issue on Fraser with backpackers back in January, they literally
s h i t e everywhere, not helping the keep Fraser open cause at all.

The beach is always changing. Next week there could be 50m of sand back again, or maybe even next month. Same as Mudlo rocks, sometimes you'd have no chance of passing them at low tide, other times they're a breeze.
She'll be 'right mate :)

Derek, excellent update, thanks for sharing. Agree on the
toilet issue and unfortunately some people just simply dont think beyond themselves.
