Looking at purchasing a solar panel 80w? or maybe 2 x 50w ( instead of a gen) and am keen to find out just how
well these things travel either on top of a camper trailer or even inside the vehicle - how robust - what damage has been experienced and the consequences etc..etc.
Anyone got some nice suggestions to this question...??
Grrr!!!

Crazy
I have an 80w panel which came in a good quality bag. It always travels in the car sitting on high density rubber.
At the moment we travel with dual batteries, the panel and a 2kva Honda generator.
Regards
Kim

mine is a permanent mount on the roof of the camper and has resisted stones, trees and even the kids who decided one day to climb over it. Go with a recognised brand and i think you will be AOK

Hi Crazy Dog
Ours travelled on the floor with all the luggage when we packed up the camper. We made a stand for it to face the sun when we stopped. It withstood some fairly rough roads. We have now mounted it on the top of the flexiglass canopy on the F250. The flexible ones you can get now would be even more durable - but so expensive.

Hi there Crazy, We have a programme here in
Sydney (not sure you get it up there)on TV called 4WDTV on TVS, they did a segment on them and this bloke was jumping up and down on them and twisting them as hard as he could and they didnt break. He was saying alot of people think they would be very easily broken but he said they are very very sturdy. What brand he was referring to I cant remember but maybe some one else saw the programme and could inform you of the brand name. Regards Steve M

Hi There Blue One, I normally watch it on Thursday nights at 7.30PM but I believe it is also on saturdays and sundays in the afternoons. Its the same segment just shown again on any of these days. New segment weekly. Some times if you use auto tune on your tv it will pick it up I imagine it would depend on signal strength. We have auto tune on our big tv in loungeroom so it picked it up its self but the old one we have in the kitchen has the old two dials on it. I think its classed as UHF & VHF. Just had a look and it is located between 30 and 34 so roughly 32 which is the UHF frequency and no you wont pick it up on your UHF in your 4by LOL Hope this helps you out. Regards Steve M

G'day Crazy Dog,
I have 2x80w bp panels with adjustable stands that bolt to the panels. They are in a zip up bag that is either in the back of the cab or on the roof rack of the camper trailer, and as yet haven't had a problem. When i bought them they said u could jump on them, never tried it myself but he did walk on one of them, not the one i bought though!!!! LOL
cheers, Lance

My Parents have Solar Panels on the roof of their Caravan (BP Panels I think).
They have been through 2 hail storms that required reskinning of the van with no damage to the panels.

Got our 85w panel from "Geezer David" of the Caravanners
forum...@andline @com.au I think is his email addy...best price that I could find ....the panel works a treat in full sun..but drops to zero if any sort of shade gets on it or on part of it , it does do a very good job though and I am pleased that I went that way , the panel travels in a padded bag standing on its side beside the bed in the van , no problems at all....still have the Honda eu1000 as a back up though....cheers

The guy on 4wd TV was Allen, boss cocky at Pirahana 4wd accessories in Bayswater Vic.
You could call them and ask what solar panel he was showing.
