Hi guys,
It seems that the factory default setting is for 15 seconds, so by the time you register that your phone is ringing and then find it and answer it, often it's too late and you've either missed the call or it's gone to message bank(which then costs you $ to retrieve!). So, to extend the ring time before diverting to message bank, here's what you do.
on your phone..type **61*101**25#
then.... send
The screen should show something like..."requesting"
then hit OK
Done.
If you have vodaphone, type 333 instead of 101, or for optus, type 321 instead of 101.(I only have a Telstra phone so I THINK these are correct)
The 25 is the number of seconds you now have of ringing and can be changed in increments of 5 seconds up to 30, but I have heard that if you set it for maximum of 30 seconds, after six months it will revert back to 15. Then you'll have to try to remember how you did it six months ago. Rus.
p.s. as usual someone will say this is not correct but it works for me.

By the way, over the last couple of weeks we did a 6 vehicle trip from south of
Adelaide to
Innamincka, to
the Dig Tree, back home via Menindie. Next G coverage was excellent at
Lyndhurst,
Tibooburra and
White Cliffs. Get out of these towns a few k's and you lost it. SA Draught beer 30 can pack at
Innamincka $40. BUT, a slab of bundy and cola cans...$92!!!!!!. All those type of cans were the same price. Rus.

Russel & Mary
I would like to say that this
forum is full of very useful and interesting information.
Thank you very much, I've put up with the short ringing on my nokia phone for years and years.
Will keep this info as I'm about to purchase a new 3G phone in a week or two just before our big trip.
At least I will have a chance to get to the phone before going to message bank.

A 3G phone won't be much use to you in remote areas.
Only NextG has extensive remote area coverage.

If you get an LGTU500 Georgiegirl, you will be able to use the notepad feature to copy the above code to give to friends or to repeat the procedure if necessary.

hi, I've had the same problem even before i went to Next G and what i did was to ring Telstra and get them to extend my ring time and all goes
well, i must admit a couple of times after it's been going fine then all of a sudden it will go back to being shorter ring times, so back on the phone i go, this however hasn't happened with the new phone 'yet'.
just think of all the extra money poor old telstra gets when this happens to a lot of phones.

As most Next G phones are fairly new, take it back to the retailer. They will contact the carrier (Telstra in my case) and the change will take place.
Makes it easier than trying to remember any configuration of numbers and symbols.
I also think that it's nice to have Telstra do something else for their (my) $$.
Cheers
