Hi,
I'm making a trip down to Victoria and Tasmania in Feb next year and I'm looking for suggestions for
places to
camp. For the Victorian part, I'm going to be limited to powered sites as my in laws are tagging along and need to run some appliances, but once we're in Tassie, we can do unpowered. Anyway, my rough itinerary is something like this - appreciate if anyone can suggest some
places to stay (and it doesn't have to be in these
places specifically). Close to
the beach or lake would be ideal.
Seaspray VIC
Healesville/Marysville VIC
Lorne VIC
Port Campbell VIC
Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair TAS
Strahan TAS
Hobart TAS
Freycinet TAS

Hi Garbage (who gave you that name?)
Having been to Tassie last year, as
well as following the Great Ocean Road on the way, my trip notes may be of interest to you. I cannot help with powered sites along the GOR, as we free camped most of the time. We free camped in Tassie also most of the time, and often did day trips without the caravan which really helped as minor roads can be unexpectedly narrow and are often winding and steep.
If you are interested, member message me or post your email address i can send you my notes on either
camping areas we stayed at, and if you would like them, my trip notes. Please let me know what you would like.

Hi Motherhen,
Thanks for the message - I've been using this username for ages. I think it was originally out of desperation due to all other usernames being taken.
Yeah, that'd be great if you could send me your notes. My e-mail address is han_chung@hotmail.com

Will send you a few notes. I chuckled at your reason for your name. I registered as Snow White and the & Dwarfs on one US site in desperation.
Cackles

My blog in the early months may be of use, www.kilbytrip.bigblog.com.au I suggest you get the Camps 4 book as it has it all.
My favorites for free camps are at Joanna on GOR and Beaches just north of
St Helens on the east coast of Tassy.

There's a nice CP at Badger
Creek in
Healesville. it's on Don Road and is
well off the main highway - nice and quiet. Only a couple of minutes from the
Healesville Sanctuary if you're into that sort of thing.
Lorne is very popular in Summer - I'd try and book ahead if I could.

Yep, I have the older version of the book. Seems to have a few holes though as it doesn't even mention anything in
Lorne.

Garbage - I can recommend the Pt Campbell
Camping and Caravan
Park. Small, grassy and very
well maintained and just a couple of minutes walk from the heart of town. It is also very
well protected from those bloody winds that always seem to be blowing along the GOR.

Hi Garbage! If you're travelling to
Strahan,I'd assume that you'll find your way to
Hobart? On the Lyall highway about halfway between
Strahan and
Hobart is Wayatinah. Great basic caravanpark on the edge of a hydro lake. Full of trout.
Park has powered sites or you can
camp on an old HEC footy oval for very minimal cost. Surrounded by bush the area is
well sheltered from elements.The
park has basic amenities but the big clincher for my family is the heated 50metre swimming pool.
My family and friends head there every year for about ten days away from the rat-race. Mobile phones dont even work there.....bliss!
Allow plenty of time for your travels over here. The distances dont look far on a map, but
Queenstown to
Hobart with a van in tow would be about a 6 hour+ drive to do it safely.
Good safe travels--landed eagle.

Hi Garbage. There's four caravan parks at
Lorne all owned by council they will cost about $50.00 per night for 2 adults and hard to get in to, need to book now. The whole place is very expensive.
Recommend Apolo Bay much better place and stay at the footy rec ground $20 p/n.
Angelsea Family
park is one of the best I've stayed at, it is huge and a great pie
shop down the road.
Cheers
Danman
