My Playdoe battery (02 model TD) is 5 years old and going strong. Looking for a replacement and there are too many brands on the market. Apart from the Exide range, what are some other good brands? Eventually installing a dual system so looking for a wet cell and orbital, gel, agm, calcium?

If it's 5 yo and still going strong, look at installing the Dual battery system and the new Cranker at the same time to match the Aux battery, buying all at the same time will same $$$
Don't use Gel and wetcell wired in parallel beside each other and use an Electronic battery Isolator.

Call me cynical but there is no way i would be trusting a 5yo battery. They are like tyres imo and need to be replaced before their use by date.

Why exclude the Exide battery?
The Exide Extreme is a very good choice for a reliable starting battery. It is constructed to "absorb" the type of punishment you normally get from offroad travel. It was my preferred choice for "bang for Buck".
As far as an auxiliary battery, an AGM battery is the best choice, without a doubt.
I also agree with Mainey's comment that in a dual battery configuration, a good quality electronic isolator is paramount to giving you years of trouble free operation.
