Well folks today was the day that I recieved officially that I am no longer required in the ADF. My service will be terminated within the next 6 months so look out Queensland I'm coming home.

After 13 years in the Army I don't think I'll have any regrets in leaving the past 3 years have been a nightmare with trying to overcome the back injury, now that they have fused the worst disc they have deemed it fixed and I can seek employment else where.

Plus SMBO has released the funds for a new toy, a 100 series dual cab non turbo. Test driving it tomorrow. :))

Cheers Kev

G'day Kev,

On behalf of all of us canetoads it is great to see you excited about returning home.

Hope the back continues to get better and the new toy sounds good.

Come and bask in the glory of being the current origin champs for yet another year.

If only we could bask in the glory of having some water then that would be even better. Level 5 at present and level 6 tipped for around September although no-one is saying what that will be but I gather it will be extreme.

Have a good one.

Probably something like needing written permision to have a shower, and only then if you wash with your clothes on to save using the washing machine.

I don't think I'll have a water problem as there is a bore on the place that we are looking to move to.
I just hop Mr Beattie is gone before I get there and the forced amalgamations are settled.

Kev,

Best of luck with your move - though why anyone wants to live in Qld when there is WA is beyond me :-)))

I got out of the Army in June last year after 23 years of Service and I have just picked up a job as a PS with the Dept of Defence :-), I just can't seem to stay away.

Hope all goes well with your back and remember the system is there to look after you - Vet Affairs / Comcare etc.

Karl,

WA was on the cards but SWMBO wants to live close to the outlaws, bugger.
I may end up doing contract work over there if I cant pick a permenant work in QLD.

As for DVA the come close to the slowest Gov Department I know. The may now pull their fingers out now I have been confirmed as being discharged.

One thing I was glad I did was stay with DFRDB, the pension helps pay for the mortage so I have more from my pay packet to spend on me!!! (and my Cruiser)

I never had that option, but I suppose now I'll end up with a DVA pension instead and hopefully a gold card :)

Kev, in a way it's unfortunate that you can work. I sympathise with the pain but after having been through the DVA mill I now have the absolute best of both worlds. A Gold Card along with a TPI pension is the way to go and unless you have investment properties or vast financial assests you could score a "service pension" as well that will give Mr's Kev a purple pension Card with all the associated benifits.
But if the Army are "dismissing" you because you can't perform your duties then I would think that a TPI would be on the cards.
My advice would be to get in contact with the Vietnam Vets @ Granville and ask what they can do for you, viv a vis making representations on your behalf. It's unwise to tackle DVA on your own.
One thing though is that DVA, once you have your "condition" recognised are far better to deal with than Centrelink.
How do I survive? Very well thanks due to the Gold Card, it's worth about $30,000 a year in benifits then of course I get the GST off vehicle purchases every 2 years...
I wish you all the best, just be careful of the Medical types in Qld, rumour has it that many have no Qual's....
Now if only we were female and could bear a child every 9 months......

Mr Fawlty,

I am luckly covered by the VEA, SCRA and MCRA. as I injured it on 3 different occasions so can claim under all.

I will take your advice and be in contact with Vietnam Vets @ Granville.

Hello Kev, Glad things are starting to go your way at last but sorry you are leaving gods country. If it is possible to get internet access in Qld we hope you will continue contributing to this forum. Maybe you could overcome the shortage of mains power up that way by use of a 12v system ? There would be many people on this sight who could give you the right advise on how to do it etc.!!
Anyway, good luck to you & best wishes.

Barry, Barry, Barry,

Don't you know anything, QLD invented the internet and 240v electricity so that the land of Oz can live in better conditions.
QLD pinches the water from the Murray/Darling system so as to provide for all the freeloading cockroaches etc that are migrating up there.

I think that you have typed some stuff backwards as I returning to God's country not leaving it LOL

My only problem is I'm here it about christmas so you'll have to put up with me a bit longer as a misplaced Queenslander.

Cheers Kev

Best wishes and good luck out there in the big wide world Kev,

I left the military 8 years ago after 23 years in and it took me 6 years to find a job that I liked, but it has all been a good experience.

Cheers

Pete,

I have been setting myself up for the big wide world for a few years now and can not wait for it to happen.

I don't think I'll have a problem with finding a job that I like it will just be the location. I can't wait to get away from the Metro areas and back to a more relaxed rural scenery.

Cheers Kev

The position up there had been filled, Bugger.

I am now looking in ernest to find some form of employment before they kick me out the door :))

It seems to be a bit shakey ATM with the amalgamations hopefully it will settle quickly and the additional positions required will be advertised soon.

Cheers Kev

I still have faith there is a lot of senior people who are going to retire because of the amalgamations. So there is hpefully a fair few positions that will be required to be filled :))

Gramps you have a memory of an elephant LOL

I will be up that way soon enough and may even find him a replacement as I know some land clearing contractors that occasionally fell trees with nests in them.
