Hello all

Can someone tell me if Running Waters and Eel Pool are the same place.

According to my Hema map they are two nearby but different places but the googling I have done on them gives the impression that they are one and the same place. My map shows a track into Running Waters but not Eel Pool. So what's the go?

Is one better than the other for a bit of quiet camping at this time of the year? If there are too many people about, does anyone have suggestions for alternative (watered) spots in the vicinity?

Thanks.

Mr Troopy ,

They are not the same place . Running Waters is on the Davis River , just below a big junction . I know it is marked wrongly too , because we were camped at Mosquito Creek on the Skull Springs road two months ago and one of the guys showed me two maps - it was marked differently on each .

I will check it out and get back to you .

Mr Troopy ,

Running Waters is about
21 40.857 S
121 07.729 E

Eeel pool is South West of that position and further up the Davis River .

Last time I was at Running Waters , it was hardly running - I was wondering if the big pit at Woody Woody was taking the water that usually runs out of the Springs .

Anyway , it is a very beautiful spot .

Cheers ,

Willie .

I'm heading off in 15 minutes to go out there for a few days - it's race day in Hedland on Monday - so I'll let you know sometime Tuesday.

Thanks all

Well fellow travellers

Got back this afternoon from a very relaxing long weekend.

We went straight to Running Waters from Hedland on Friday but found it unsuitable for camping. While the creek was running and accessible there were numerous small pools with lots of mozzie larvae. Suitable spots to set up our tent were limited even though no-one else was there. Rather than spend our time fending off swarms of mozzies we made our way back to the Oakover River and camped there.

Found a great spot near a large pool where the river was gurgling along nicely and set up camp there. There are quite a few camping spots which are easily accessible from the crossing - a bit rocky in places. The weather was just right with a big High in South Oz making for some strong easterlies which kept the flies and few mozzies at bay.

If you have the time and inclination to find them, there are some magnificent secluded camping spots among the paperbarks just a few hundred metres west of the crossing and with a sensible guide to make your own track, you would have a magic spot for a few days.

We didn't get down to Eel Pool. Spent the days talking, reading, bushwalking and giving my daughter driving lessons in a manual - she has an auto licence. We'll check out Eel Pool next time and see if Running Waters is any better then.

Til the next long weekend
