Hi all
After some 12 months on the road we have decided to settle down and we chose Culburra Beach, Nowra NSW. Went to RTA to change over rego from Qld to NSW and after paying $87 for a blue slip inspection I was informed that my Qld compliance plate for my after market Longranger fuel
tank was not rcognised in NSW and I would need an engineers report costing $300. OK so I received my insurance renewal and decided to upgrade my addrees details to NSW. Yeh they want an extra $300 more than Qld address. Allianaz Qld quote $640. Allianz NSW quote $940. Same vehicle. same extras, same same. Just because I moved to NSW. Bought a house. Stamp duty on purchase $6600. I think we made a mistake settling in the 'high fees and taxes' State
Cheers Jack

Jack,
I'm glad to be going the other way. The common thing with insurance companies in NSW is that they have a high crime rate cause the government wouldn't increase police numbers until it appeared to be in crisis.
God I love Queensland
Cheers Kev

Maybe you should have moved to
Newcastle...
Sydney.....or.....
Wollongong,I think thats why they call it NSW. That Pacific highway dfinately stops at
Wollongong and continues on as a secondary road to Victoria.
Lived south of you for many years and could not get that Govt to spend any money south of
Wollongong. So I moved to Qld. Maybe you should rethink.
A good example is a hotel that was called the railway hotel near
Merimbula. It was named such because they were promised a railway to that area. Still waiting.

If he had moved to the
Newcastle to Woolongong stretch insurance & rego fees would have been even higher.

disco1942,
Heck! things might be on the up and up. Maybe I shoould move back. I seem to remeber living in
Newcastle in the early 1970's that rego was cheaper because it was classed as "country".

Don't be so selfish, this bloody state is broke we need all of the cashed up retirees we can to so we can squeeze out their money.
have you looked into health care costs here?
Enjoy

Know exactly how you feel. We moved from WA to NT to Qld and recently to NSW.
Rego here for the car is going to cost us $1000 all up (due to not having comprehensive insurance)! WA is something like $700 or less.
And yeah the same problem as you - we had a Chev put in whilst in
Townsville but do you think they would recognise the Engineers certificate that we had done in Qld? Of course not, we had to do another one in NSW.
Oh and you should try buying a house, strange process here too as opposed to everywhere else, you have to put down a deposit and do an exchange or something before the place is yours. Everywhere else you can put an offer in subject to finance & it's yours unless the finance doesn't come through.
Lake Cathie near Port Macquarie was nice but we'll most likely settle in Southwest WA me thinks.
