We looked at an off road caravan at Montrose caravan repairs then decided to buy so agreed on the phone to a price which was accepted.
Immediatley travelled to to pay deposit only to arrive to be told "I am just signing someone up to to buy but hey it is subject to finance and if it falls through I will give you a call'. Is this questionable business ethics or what. Anyway it might be Karma as we had been assured the caravan had been repaired after hail damage but talking to previous owners we found out it had been written off after a flip over on the hume hwy.

If I were in your position I would politly tell them that I am still interested and if Karma is on your side and the other buyers don't get finance. I would tell the dealer that I will take it and to have it ready to go on a date and I time that the salesperson has to come in and open up out of hours. Then I would ring and tell them on your way there you found a better van.... and they can keep theirs.

Then again maybe I'm just nasty LOL

As you say, good Karma. Also someone that rebuilds a written off vehicle for resale would be one to steer away from.

Gee that's a conflict in terms..an 'offroad' caravan?? Must have the mandatory checkerplate and chunky tyres !!

i had a similar experience with a caboolture dealer. arranged to have a look on the weekend only to turn up to find it had a deposit paid. they told me that offroad vans were at a premium, and a deposit would be neede to hold a van...... won't be going back there. it was a big dealer also. doesnt seem like a good way to do business.

We spent weeks searching the Net and Qld dealers for a serious off-roader (2nd hand) - they are indeed hard to come by.
Left our name and number with all the dealers - no replies.
Ended up buying a Getaway from Gosford (near Sydney).
Had to put a holding deposit over the phone (Mastercard).
They had 2 vans we were interested in, and our deposit was on the Getaway- when we arrived the other was sold.
On road vans - plenty. Off-roaders people seem to hang onto.
Best of luck with your search...........Keith
