Off on a trip (3 vehicles) to the area on the bottom end of the Paroo river NE of Whitecliffs in NSW. One of the vehicles going have friends who have property in the area. Several questions as I have never been to that area before:
What are the tracks like, sandy or rocky (will Grandtreks on a Landcruiser handle the terrain)
Is it worth chucking the yabby nets in
Would there be Yellow Belly in the Paroo (if so what's the best bait and rig)
Would the flies and mozzies be very busy the 2nd week in Sept.
Are there many pigs up that way
We will be travelling
Mildura ,
Pooncarie, Medindee,
Wilcannia and along the track that goes fron Whitecliffs to
Wanaaring I beleive.
Any tips and advice welcome. Thanks Nick

Yabbie nets definately,
Yellow belly should be, use 1/0 - 3/0 hooks and a small ball sniker. Earth worms and shrimps work
well, small yabbies also.
Flies and Mozzies are standard for the area.
There is always a chance that you will spot pigs in that area, just don't mistake them for sheep at night like a pro shooter did LOL
Take it easy and the tyres should survive.
Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev M,
Are the yabbies very big or just little tackers like down in SE-SA where we had a go for yabbies a few years back.
I see you live in NSW. Do you live in the area (Paroo river region)?
Cheers Nick.

Nick,
I currently live in
Sydney (unfortunately) but grew up out that way (QLD side of the border).
The size of yabbies varies but I have caught ones that are at least the length of my hand, very tasty. I usually use the smaller ones for bait.
Cheers Kev

Not sure about the Paroo around Whitecliffs.
I stayed in
Hungerford for 2 days a couple of weeks ago with a mate who has a holiday house there.
We caught 80 yabbies over two days in the main channel of the Paroo.
About this size:

Thanks Richard,
I thought opera house yabby nets were illegal these days?
I guess I better read the NSW regulations!!
Any one know the easiest way to get a hard copy of NSW recreational fishery regulations.
Regards Nick.

Old Nick, I went through that way from
Tilpa - Tongo -
White Cliffs a couple of weeks ago.
Paroo was flowing over the road in quite a few
places through Laurel Vale through to Tongo. Maybe 6 inches deep, not much more.
Roads had just been graded through there.
Drove from Tongo to
White Cliffs around dusk. Roos everywhere at that time of day. It was like driving down a tenpin bowling alley.
Unfortunately I didnt have time to do any yabbying :<(((.
Saw some yabbies at
Menindee some time ago, as long as a wine bottle. Unfortunately they weren't
mine though :<(((.
I stayed at
White Cliffs overnight and flies and mozzies non existant there at that time.
Where the roads are rocky, just slow down a bit.
I went through with a new CT, and not a problem.
