Have some friends in their 60’s buying a Kimberly Karavan. They asked me if I knew anything about them. I said I’d ask here for some feedback.
I met a guy at
Camooweal the other day who’d had one for a couple of weeks and was happy with it so far. He did mention he’d heard that a couple of KK’s travelling together on the Tanami recently had some
suspension trouble and that KK was looking into it.
Does anyone have a KK and could offer some feedback, what would you do next time for example. I’ve done a search on here and sent a few MM’s but haven’t found much so far.
.
Cheers
John

Member John (R) has one of these and will only be too pleased to answer any questions you have.
As a matter of fact, he has nothing else to do but talk to people about his KK and his experiences with same, as he is retired and if he is not passing on his experiences in the KK (which he loves) to others he is bothering me. (LOL)
So all means check out his rig pic and profile and member message him.

G'day John, I have enquired about the points you ask and the suspensions are in process of being checked I believe. Not that I hear that from the factory.
There is now a recommendation on tyre pressures that is quite recent. Apparently, they have found that the high tyre pressures that some use apply a lot more pressure back through the suspensions and apply high fade rates on shockers and damage
suspension arms. I have also heard that the bigger wheel offsets, like Landcruiser
wheels seem to be a cause too.
Some people seem to think the Tanami is a 110-120kph highway. Could cause a few problems hitting holes at that speed :-(((
There is a
Kimberley Karavan Owners group these days on Yahoo, that is only open to owners where ideas are swapped and thoughts presented. If there are any owners wishing information or to be invited, write to me at mvpartners at bigpond dot com, inserting the required "."&"#"
sign and remove the spaces. The KK engineer has access too, but owners are also showing more innovative ideas.

John,
I replied to your member message albeit a bit late.
I'll send you another with my phone number.
I guess we all purchase things for different reasons and what suits us at the time.
For me at 50 years old and living in a villa (a block of land with three dwellings....not three blocks of land with one dwelling!!) space was an issue. So the size was right for me.
I wanted dirt road ability as oppossed to on road.
I didn't want canvas....ie flip over type camper.
I wanted to be able to be self sufficient for a period of time.
The energy and
water supplies in the Karavan fit the bill.
I wanted something easy to tow.
at 5 metres long and 1.9metres wide it fits the bill for me.
Height and subsequent wind resistance also comes into play.
A vacuum
toilet and an internal shower (albeit small) External shower also.
Different energy supplies. Diesel for cooking and heating of
water in
water tanks. LPG for burner and BBQ if required.
LED lighting and energy efficiency.
Microwave if you please.
350A/H battery supply with built in charger and inverter.
Large queensize bed.
Not a luxurious offroader but all the basics and some. The "mothership " I think.
So for me and what I want to do at this point in my life the perfect fit.
Perfect for two people. I'm still looking for the second person though!!!!
To each his own.
Garth
