Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has driven the Boomfield track recently? I am thinking of heading up sometime in the next two weeks and would like to give it a go. Just was curious to see if anyone knew what the track conditions were, or if there is any probs?
Will be taking my RA Rodeo it has 2inch lift, BFG muddies and an air-locker if that helps.
Thanks Matt

Havent done it since November last year but could have done it in a standard Falcon....easy! With your Rodeo you will do it with the greatest of ease.
Cheers

About a month ago- no problems..not a track as such, it's a road. Even tourist buses (
well the 4wd variety). Could do it with a 2wd...Not real adventurous !!

One year it rained. I was towing a trailer, and it wasn't a great trip. I slid down some hills, got stuck in the bottom of creeks, nearly got drowned in the river.
Cops had closed the track...after I got started on it.
The next year my bro walked his Padj through and never got it dirty. He even managed to arrive at the crossing on a dead low tide.
Like so many tracks the weather is king.

Up there 3 months back with a loaded camper trailer and the Jackaroo - steep as hell in
places, but a smooth graded surface (with a few minor washouts from rain) - solo vehicles set up for bush travel should have no issues in any weather - you won't need your rock crawling hardware - conventional 2wd vehicles would be ok too in the dry - when towing though, having to stop or back up (for oncomings) would present real issues in my view - first low in 4wd would be needed to get going again.

Sit back and enjoy the scenery, if you want a bit of a harder run, go up the
creb track if it is open, it was closed about 1month ago
Have a good trip

The drive from
Cairns to
Cooktown via the track is a spectacular drive! Yes it is very steep in
places but as said if dry no problems. As for doing it in a Falcon or such, maybe, but with rocks the size of bricks at the
water crossings and
water well above your knees sometimes, i wouldn't try it.
Cheers Lyndon

Albeit a very picturesque trip that I enjoy immensely, the only way it would pose any challenge is in a 2WD. C'mon where is your sense of adventure!!! LOL

We are heading up that way in 4 week in our Disco TD5 and towing our off road camper trailer so hopefully it will be nice and dry.
If you are back before we head off Matt (leaving
Newcastle on 20/9/07) can you give and update on how you went.

Matt
We were there about 6 weeks ago and I agree with the earlier comments. Only additional info I would give is to be very aware of the motor bike brigade up there. We saw more bikes on the track than cars and some of them are a bit heavy on the right hand and a bit light on in the brain department.
