Wondering if anyone has travelled certain tracks on the Cape and what condition or how difficult they may be. Tracks include entry to Chilli Beach, Vrilya Point, Elim (round trip from Cooktown to Luara), and Captain Billy's Landing. Have been to the Cape last 2 years including the O.T.L, so a comparison could perhaps be made.

Great Web site
well done - I spent a hour reading all your stories
Just had a friend come back from the Cape and said he hardly used 4 wheel drive-Then another friend last year blew his front diff in series 80 similar problem to yours. Then again we were there 1982 and 1985-crossed the Jardine in a metre of water, but walked it first along with the few other travellers we met.1985 had the ferry so we took that along with crowds.Your photos show the graves,we actually saw the homestead before it was bunt down.I think its called progress

Hey Steve, great site. What time of he year did you do his trip?

We are heading as far as Elim early next month so it was great to read your site and see your pictures.

Have to start by saying the site was created by Ivan another EO member and photos and stories were contributed by all the families!

We left the ACT on the 1st July, so if you follow the diary, whatever the day is eg Day 1 is also the date.

Thanks Steve, congratultion to Ivan and all of the families for a great read and what appears to be great time.

The link came at an opportune time for a very excited family of four who are about to head off on their very own North QLD adventure.

Chilli Beach. 2WD access to camping area on a main road. Frenchman's track across to Chilli Beach is rough & eroded in places & is very tight for trailers with the Pascoe river often being fairly deep.
Vriliya Point. Narrow track, soft sand in places, beach driving.
Captain Billy's landing. Mostly 2WD access on a minor track.
Obviously after rain track conditions deteriorate considerably.
Most of the side tracks are in general easier than the OTL probably due to less traffic.
Cheers Craig................
