I have read lots on this forum with interest as I am hoping to start a long tour of OZ inside the next six months. I am hoping someone can help with info on a diesel genny as I have a diesel 4x4 and don't want to go dual fuel. I will need it to occasionly run a microwave and/or aircon unit in my van. Thanks for any help.

Hi Helen

There are some small diesel gens around but they tend to be heavy and expensive. Diesel gens are far more prevalent in the higher power/commercial areas than in the hobby/camping market.

I appreciate your desire for a single fuel but would suggest you look very hard at petrol gens - Honda are the Rolls Royce with Yamaha following. To run an AC you should consider at least a 2KW gen.

Thanks for that info Mike - I have been doing a lot of research and am trying to find a decent make/model which will be reliable - so many brands on the market, but! - weight won't matter too much as long it doesn't go over 70-80 kilos - more concerned with noise levels and being able run the aircon for 8-10 hours and also to service/repair if necessary

Currently 35 diesel generators on ebay ranging from small to large and from 3.3kva upwards , price wise seems not to excessive compared to a honda 2kva ect.

Thanks Axel

I have seen them but again don't know about brand reliability/service/repairs - don't want to have problems in alice springs and find I have to have it fixed in sydney - I was hoping someone would have specific knowledge of which brands to avoid
