Hi All
I drive from the
Gold Coast to
Brisbane every day on the M1,
and every day you see people, all sexes all ages, drive like their is no
tomorrow, BUT WHEN IT RAINS LOOK OUT, they get worse,
I know lately we havent had a lot of rain to speek of, but surely
these brainless idiots shouldnt have to be re programed, about driving to the conditions, and when its pouring turn the head lights on,
I am the first one to acknowlege that I am no expert but, I stick to
the speed limit 99% of the time, the other 1% is when I over take
trucks ect, on single lane outback roads. ok give me a serve.
Cheers
Daza

Here in WA we have little
orange lights on the corners of our cars. They are called 'confirmators' We flash them after suddenly changing lane to confirm that we have cut in on you.

You callem confiminators ?? in Queensland they are optional extras as the way most refuse to use them you would think that the globes come at an extra premium or that the 12v used to indicate is added to the house / home electricity bill .

I moved to
Brisbane 5 years ago and I still regret not selling the optional extras on my Landcruiser prior to moving here. It is such a waste carrying them around all the time. But occasionally I use them, old habits I suppose. Still they are handy to have on hand when travelling interstate.

It's a
well known fact that using indicators increases fuel consumption.
It's kinder to the environment to not use them.
Honest.

I just returned to NSW central coast from 2 weeks at Kirra.
I must say I was amazed at the poor lane discipline, right lane hogging, tailgating, and zig-zag overtaking on the GC-
Brisbane road.
I was actually more alert /alarmed on GC road than on the F3.
I am not a slow driver, and usually sit a little over the GPS tested limit ie about 10 over, and I found the traffic faster there than in NSW, despite the Land Cruisers parked with speed cameras.
Maybe its the frustration at the unbelievably poor traffic management in Queensland. That stretch from Kirra to Currumbin, must take the cake for the poorest traffic management I have ever seen. Lights not coordinated, excessive arrow times, too many entries from the service road . With a bit of thought and a flyover at the airport and the start of the highway, they do not really need the bypass.
Regards Philip A

Hi Philip.
I moved to the Tweed 20 years ago from
Sydney.
You are correct, a flyover at Tugun & the airport would certainly have assisted with the traffic problems.
Once the Tugun bypass is completed the traffic problem will move further south to Banora Point.

Hey Daza.
"Boofheads"?.............................. I don't think we have the market cornered but we do seem to have more than our fair share.
I am of the belief that there is not too much wrong with our roads.
The problem lies with the motorists who use the roads.
My observation with the GC Hwy, stay in the far left lane, there is nobody using it on most occasions.

Well, having driven in UnZud and all states of Oz except Tasmania, you'd have to a pretty brave man to single out one as being worse than any other.
It is true I often get held up by slow dudes in the right lanes going up the Sunny coast or down the Goldie - but I'd better not mention the STATES of origin that a lot of them come from.
I usually use the far left lane most the time - there is no one there.

The locals are bad enough without bringing NSW plates into it. I've driven the M1 regularly and never had any major problems. Anticipating traffic mergers is a big advantage, like the amoeba in front of you indicating left and going right, or worse still not indicating and going straight ahead.
When it rains on the Bruce hwy, traffic seems to speed up, especially the trucks - must be an overwhelming desire to get out of the rain fast. In these situations when traffic condenses tail-to-tail,
I turn all my lights on,
the hazards, hold the horn down and recite my afterworld acceptance speech.
cheers

I like to think I am a safe driver, I have seen the carnage first hand
where my family has been involved in an accident with a drunk
driver, my wife and kids were not seriously injured, but my wife still
has problems with flash backs of seeing the dead woman in the
other vehicle. and that was just bringing the kids home from school.

Bad drivers everywhere - but let's face it, us Aussies are not amongst the best. We can't even keep to a simple lane discipline where the slowest stay to the left and the ones who want to go faster use the right. Too complicated.

Yeah, well you need to know the difference between left and right for that. And perhaps be able to read, and maybe even have read the Road Traffic Code at least once.
My brother says you should drive as if every other motorist is out to kill you - won't be far wrong sometimes!! "If you assume they have the brains of a house brick, you won't expect them to obey the rules".

ha - funny you should say that (last para) A couple of weeks ago I told my boys to drive like everyone else was an idiot and not watching what they're doing. I asked the 13 yr old again the other day why he'd gone quiet on the idea of driving..."aw dunno, just gone off the idea - sounds a bit dangerous".
I was only trying to put a bit of caution in their heads in preparation for when they're old enough - looks like I went too far

On many NSW Freeways they've spent taxpayer money to put up frequent signs saying "Keep Left Unless Overtaking", but then they realised that it was a waste of time, so they added underneath "Penalty Exceeds $200".
It still doesn't work !
Actutually on 3-lane freeway theses signs lie - under the law you only have to keep out of the right lane. If you drive at 30km/hr in the centre lane, there is nothing the Police can do.
I've driven on many freeways overseas - nowhere have the drivers been so thoughtless, that the government has to put up signs explaining considerate driving behaviour.

Us Queenslanders don't need indicators as we know where we are going and enjoy the challenge of guessing what other drivers are going to do next...lol

The rain brings out the idiots wherever you drive, in all states. Though driving around the Gold Coast when i visit me mum, scares the hell out of me i must admit.
it should be law to turn your lights on when it rains.
With everybody being individuals today and driving grey or silver cars which are barely different in colour to the wet tar. It is nearly impossible to not hit one when you want to change lanes.
Funny how it is the cars that are easily seen in all conditions like white and yellow ones are the first to put their lights on and if there is one without its lights on guess what colour it is. The one and only thing Volvo got right iMHO, engine runs parkers turn on automatically.

I couldn't agree more about which coloured cars put their lights on first. We live in the bush on
Melbourne's fringe and I can't believe how stupid some drivers are when it rains or is getting dark. You would think it uses extra fuel to turn the lights on.
