they have omitted a sentence
The 3 litre diesel engine ST model only comes in green with a pin, the pin is removed by the dealer upon delivery. A small explosion will follow, sometime.......

"There are some minor cosmetic changes for the big four-wheel-drive, including chrome door handles and lighter colour honeycomb grille."

Bonz, I have suggested one of those for the years to come. No not the Explorer but the parts chain is probably as good as Nissan. A V10 would be nice ;-))))) Just the thing for pulling a Karavan. You should have email at every stop there on that continent. You gone to Skype yet?

Jeff, interesting comment. I wonder what it was?

Makes me wonder just who has got it right.!

Nissan sticks with its 3.0TD " hand-grenade ", in the Patrol,,but no problems in it's navara range with basically the same motor ( minus the intercooler )

Kinda tells you that that little motor is over- stretched

Or ,,the Toyota V8 Diesel, with heaps of grunt, and fuel economy, very close to Nissan.

Like one of my mates said to me years back " nothing beats cubic inches "

Oh ,,, if I only had the money

Cheers All

A freind of our has just had the motor in her Navara refurbished due to a cracked head. This was reported before it was out of warranty as it constantly needed the coolant topping up. Now we all know this is not right but they kept telling her there was no obvious problem( probably due to the fact she was a woman) and it was only after learning the alternative side of the vocabulary they pulled the head off and it was found to be leaking coolant into #2 & 3 pistons. They ended up rebuilding it as a "long" motor. The customer service from the Nissan dealership in Wodonga was very poor to say the least

Bucky!! You are right!! Would you buy a new Commodore with a 3 litre 4 cylinder in it to push an 1800kg car on tar? I dont think you would so why would you buy a Patrol with a 4 cylinder in it weighing up to 3 tonne. doesnt make sense does it?? Michael

Michael

Have to agree with you.
Look no one will doubt that the Nissan Patrol is a great feeling vehicle, but it makes me wonder why they are sticking with this little " donk ". And when the shyte hits the fan they are running and hiding ....
The other thing I did hear, ( don't know if its true ) but aparently in many European countries, Nissan had no choice,, they had to replace with new engines, and not repair, but our " lemon " rules are pitiful, and that is the main reason they, the dealers get away with it ..

I did hear they its emmision rules, so just how big is the stockpile ?

I do not believe that the 4.2 TD was such a dinosore, that it could be fixed, with some head work.

Everything else is bullet proof.

Cheers Mate
Bucky

I know its been mooted for a while, but there is talk of them bringing a V8 Diesel out around 2009. This info was from the mouth of a western Sydney Nissan salesman - so the info is probably as reliable as the ZD30.

Sam, sales for the Patrol will be so low by the time any new diesel engine is introduced, Nissan wont even bother.. I guess they are so arrogant in their thinking, they may never realise that it was themselves that let the Patrol die. A few years ago in my model, they upgraded the cup holders, no joke. Now its the door handles, and im just busting to see the new grill!!!!!! Michael

first of all i have to say "go the toyotas" Nissan just can't seem to get it together with this patrol, honestly how hard can it be for a company like nissan, all they need is a new style, live axels and v8 diesel. Oh you may not need the new style as toyota has proven!!!

I wonder how many patrols will be sold when the 200 cruiser comes out, oh well - just wait to you drive does not really have the right ring to it does it!!

How hard can it be for a company like Toyota to make an LSD that lasts more than 10,000klms?

At least Nissan has finally realised that a credible engine is needed in the lower spec patrols since the 4.2 was killed by our green 'friends'.
4.8i; is bullet proof, powerful and drinks like a sailor on a port visit. Suppose 2/3 is better than 1/3 for the other excuse for a powerplant.

Drove a 4.8i about two months ago, and I could not believe it was a patrol; actually fast. Got to about 2200 rpm off the line then it was like a turbo kicking in and ran like a thousand startled gazelles to 5000 before upshiftin. Also when entering the highway at 80km/hr in 4th I had to make a choice of 'do I stay or do I go'..........put the boot through the firewall and dropped it to second and 3700rpm and roared to 100 before shifting. Certainly no need to apologise to other road users.

Go the 4.8 auto over that other thing any day; the fuel economy will be offset by not having to rebuild a 3.0 after a 100,000km.

Hi Benny

Glad you got chance to drive - its a serious eye opener isn't it.

While the auto is in effect faster because you don't have to work at it , am pleased I chose the manual because you get to make the choices. 3rd gear in the manual 4800 goes to 118kmh
and is a full second faster in the 80-110 passing zone than the auto , and at the other end its easier to hold the fuel use to sub 17lt/100km.

I dont think that the 4.8i is currently offered with the manual anymore, I think it got killed of cause the Arabs wanted a tiptronic auto and demand from the middle east for an auto far outstrips that for a manual in Oz. I hope is returned in the latest upgrade as by my reckoning that would put an auto 3l and a manual 4.8 at almost the same cost in ST trim. I know which I would chose any day.

Losing the 30l sub in the current petrol models is a retrograde step as it is the model that NEEDS it the most. Just another excuse to get a long(er) range tank........ :)

Benny!! the fuel tank loss is the silliest thing i agree but only a few years ago the TI petrol model got a front diff lockker, just the model that didnt need it. Not an option for the ST's that actually go bush.. The thinking in Japan is what is sending the Patrol to a slow death.. Michael
