Need new tyres for the 80 series, chiefly for sealed road driving, with some sand work and the occasional dirt track sojourn.
A mate recommended Federal Tyres, at about $215 a pop.
Anyone know much about them?

Scotty I had Federal Dueller 351, 31 10.5R 15 LTs on my 1900kg (unloaded) Isuzu MU for over 150 000km and they were fantastic. Great in the wet and did heaps of touring towing a 700kg camper trailer through central QLD,over the Donahue and Plenty hwys into Alice and then down to Adelaide and around the coast to Sydeny....oh and plus 9 trips across the Nullarbor from Perth to Sydney.

Only ever had one puncture and ran them at 32 PSI apart from off road, Spicers Gap, Stockton Beach (numerous), Barrington Tops, Mt Sugarloaf and really gave them a work out. Not bad for $100 a tyre and the km they did without fault. They didnt do any sort of Mud tyre when I changed them over otherwise I would have stayed with them. I do see they now have a huge range of MT's in their Cougrior?? range.

I wouldnt be paying $215 for them unless you are going 32" or 17-18" rims...but upto $150ish they are worth their weight in gold.

I love the reputable no-name brand...you pay for the tyre not the name....currently running Maxxis tyres and think they are fantastic...although they proved their worth tenfold in off-road gear long before they started making 4wd tyres.

All the best and goodluck with your purchase.

Matt.

I have Federal Ecovan 16" LT's. These are on my CT but wouldn't hesitate to put them on my wagon.
Did 4,000k recently on mix of seal and unseal, no punctures, no damage. They have a very deep tread and good sidewall thickness.
Federal, Simex Centipedes (now Sime tyres) and Bridgestone have all given me good value and safety and didn't break the bank.
