I'm keen to know of any good caravan parks along this stretch of coast, good facilities for families, that sort of thing.
Thanks in advance,

Hello Nick

Kilcunda has fantastic views and is on ( above ) the foreshore . The pub over the road is clean and pleasant and clientel is mainly country folk .Apart from the views the main , or only , attractions are the beach , walks and fishing . I haven't stayed there so you would need to talk to the operaters to find out the details . If you need the facilities of a small town then Inverloch may suit . Let me know if you need details on Inverloch .

If you want just an overnighter or a couple of days the rest stop at Yanakie is excellent. Toilets, playground, BBQ and it's FREE.
I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

Hi Nick,

The Big 4 at Inverloch is a nice park. Close walk to the beach and you can also camp on the foreshore of Andersons Inlet. The Holiday Park side of it has a play ground, but I think your two may be bored with that.

Inverloch Holiday Park

Waratah Bay was nice but we were there many, many years ago and I think they were changing the setup. There used to be two parks - one in town that was a typical park and the other was twoards the Prom and was much less developed.

If you're self-sufficient, Bear Gully is great (and free!). It's on the way to Cape Liptrap.

We spent last weekend at Bear Gully and I have to agree - it is magnificent. Except for the group of campers that felt the need to have the music on until the early hours of the morning and the other group that turned up very late in the night, dropped their swags down and got the fire going right next to an older couple that had long before headed for bed - I was up at 3 answering to natures call and they were still going. If you go to BG, get there Fri night for the best spots otherwise avoid the weekend. We will go back but not on a weekend or school holidays.
Walkerville Nth Caravan Pk looks good. Right on the beach, apparently good fishing, dogs are allowed. Didn't stay there but we have listed it to try as we have a small dog we couldn't take to Bear Gully.

Forgot to include, BG is good for kids. No playgrounds but plenty of space for riding bikes around. Also has flushing toiliets (no showers).

Nick R, its a little bit off the main drag, but we stay at Venus Bay c.p and has everything for the kids including a pool, playground and large rec. room, and close to the beach as well.
cheers, Lance

Steve,
We were going to stay there but after a few phone calls including one to check the information I was given we will not. To my utter disbelief each of the sites have been concreted to give a nice level site to park your van on, pity if you need to peg down your annexe.... I could not believe any park would do that, maybe a bit for the van alone but not the whole site...... this was the reason for multiple calls.
After that I didn't feel like shelling out for a villa, I only felt like expressing my dissappointment, so I did....

Last weekend we did a tour of the stretch between phillip island & wilsons prom (looking for a long term caravan site). My suggestions would be:
- Kilcunda CP next to the Powlett river? seemed very nice
- Bear Gully is great (toilets only as mentioned above)
- Walkerville Nth CP great & is right on the (rocky) coast (but the CP appears closed at the moment). no shops etc in this area
- Waratah bay CP is okay but its location right on a great beach makes up for it. no shops etc in this area
- Yanakie CP is okay & a great location right on the beach (albeit just an average swimming beach). no shops etc in this area

- Kilcunda CP overlooking the ocean had nice views but didn't grab us otherwise
- Cape Paterson (nr Inverloch) seems a good spot but we didn't check out the actual CP (which seems very close to the beach)
- Inverloch CPs were just to big & commercial for us (but great beaches at Inverloch). Inverloch is a big town with plenty for families to do.
- Venus Bay CP is nice & well run, but not that close to the beach. very small town.
- Sandy Point CP was horrible which is a pity because Sandy Point beaches & nearby Shallow Inlet seemed great. very small town.

hope this helps

Thankyou everyone for your responses, they have been very helpful as usual.
In January we are doing Lakes Entrance first, then a few days bush in the high country followed by a few days along this part of the coast. Cheers,
Nick

You would need to book for most places along the coast in January. Chris

I live in Wonthaggi, and there are parks at Kilcunda, Mouth of the Powlet, ( Wonthaggi, not recomended ) Cape Paterson has 2.
There are 3 or 4 in Inverloch, from what I am told all are good.
Apart from that I cannot help, only to say have a look in Camps Australia 4 and you will see them all marked.

Cheers
Bucky
